Know Your Foe: Mississippi State

When ASU takes to the field on Saturday night they'll be staring at the man in the mirror. Mississippi State, much like the Sun Devils, is a team coming off a struggling year and carrying low expectations into the 2024 season. Additionally, they, too, began their current campaign with a resounding home victory. How do the Bulldogs match up with Arizona State? We invited Sam Sklar, the Clarion Ledger’s Mississippi State beat writer, to share his insight on ASU's upcoming opponent.

What Games Are You Watching Tomorrow ?

Besides ASU vs MIss St tomorrow night on ESPN who will you be watching prior to that game ?

These are the five games I'm inclined to watch tomorrow in addition to my Sun Devils...

Arkansas @ Oklahoma St
- the Cowboys are my pick to win the Big-12 but can they handle a SEC team..??

Texas @ Michigan
- two top ranked teams, one from the B1G and the other from the SEC, dueling it out before 100,000 fans in Ann Arbor

Iowa St @ Iowa - good rivalry game that Iowa almost always wins (Hawkeyes always play good D and have good special teams)

Colorado @ Nebraska - Prime Time and his QB son take on the Huskers in Lincoln...will the Buffs wheels start falling off or will the march to a bowl game be for real..??

Texas Tech @ Washington St
or Boise St @ Oregon - Red Raiders almost lost to Abilene Christian last week and the highly ranked Ducks struggled against Idaho...

PS: I'll also be watching BYU @ SMU tonight...

Go Devils and Beat the Bulldogs!!!

2025 Commits and 2026/7 Prospects will be at Saturday's Game

I would expect the Kansas game to maybe be the first weekend to start seeing some official visitors, but keep in mind that the vast majority of the 2025 class is not only full, but also most of its commits have already officially visited. ASU would still like to add a defensive lineman, maybe two, so that's probably the main position you can expect official visitors on campus.

I do like the fact that ASU is getting a good jump on some good 2026 local players as well as some in the 2027 class.

2025 Commits

QB Butter Tollefson
WR Adrian Wilson
WR Uriah Neloms
LB Puka Fuimaono
DB Xavier Skowron
DL Daeshon Morgan
OL Alema Iosua

2026 Prospects

LB Tristan Phillips Ventra, CA HS)
LB Hudson Dunn (Liberty HS)
ATH Zeth Angel Thues (Scottsdale Saguaro HS)
OL Jalayne Miller (Desert Edge HS)
DB Niko Jandreau (Hamilton HS)
OL Red Waterman (Hamilton HS)
RB Jacob Brown (Scottsdale Saguaro HS)
WR Tristan Bacon (Kellis HS)
LB Beau Jandreau (Hamilton HS)

2027 prospects

ATH Mekhi Hodge (Cesar Chavez)
DB Mikyal Davis (Desert Edge HS)
OL Jake Hildebrand (Basha HS)
OT Ben Lowther (Peoria Centennial)

Mississippi State Preview

A one-sided victory in week one is great for morale and confidence to kick off the season, but for both Mississippi State and ASU, the true test of their respective abilities comes on Saturday night when both teams will meet in Tempe. What can we expect from this Bulldog squad? Joe Healey takes a detailed look at Saturday night's ASU opponent.

Offensive efficiency for ASU can fuel defensive dominance

“It’s about playing complementary football. Takeaways are a part of football, and I’ve seen more turnovers in my career when our offense can score points." A carbon copy script of last week may not show up against Mississippi State but it can be the formula of success for ASU

Mississippi State game notes from the official website

A win over Mississippi State would give ASU a 2-0 start to the season where BOTH victories were over FBS schools for the first time since 2018 (UTSA/Michigan St.), and end Mississippi State's 10-game winning streak in non-conference games. More notes here

STORY: Players putting Wyoming win in perspective, turn the page to Mississippi St

“We're not satisfied; We keep grinding, head down. We're going up. That's the only way we got to go.” A dramatic jump in the level of competition this week has the full attention of the Sun Devils players, who, aside from a win, are looking to make history, too
