TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State University redshirt senior quarterback Mike Bercovici has been named one of 10 finalists for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes student-athletes who excel both on and off the field, and have notable achievement in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.
ASU is the only school in the nation to have a Senior CLASS Award finalist in three consecutive seasons as safety Alden Darby was a finalist in 2013, quarterback Taylor Kelly in 2014 and Bercovici in 2015.

Finalists for the Senior CLASS Award were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 candidates announced in September. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through Dec. 14. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches’ votes to determine the winner. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the football bowl season in early January.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the football bowl season in early January.

Bercovici, who is from Calabasas, Calif., is a team captain and a member of the team’s Leadership Council for the second consecutive year. He is one of the first student-athletes to sign up for any community service initiative, and has dedicated countless hours at various kid’s camps and youth clinics throughout his career. He has made a number of visits to hospitals and schools, and is part of a leadership and outreach program that helps educate young people on the importance of getting an education and having a strong sense of self-worth and accomplishment.

A five-year member of ASU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Bercovici has been an advocate for the Championship Life Program created by ASU. He helped put together a presentation with Jean Boyd and Drew Rosenhaus that is designed to help young student-athletes make the most of their time in school and ensure they set themselves up for a positive future, and has also been instrumental in influencing his teammates and other student-athletes to become more involved in the community. He has served as an ambassador for the football program and Arizona State University on numerous occasions, including as a pace setter for kids’ portion of Pat’s Run, as a representative at annual Pac-12 Football Media Day, as a speaker on behalf of the Sun Devil Club at multiple events, and as a panelist at the annual Tempe Chamber of Commerce Football Kickoff Luncheon.

Bercovici, a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honoree, needed just three years to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management in May 2014 and is currently enrolled in a Master’s of Sports Law and Business. He has been a Scholar Baller®, an honor given to a student-athlete who achieves a GPA of 3.0 or above, in 10 semesters, and is on track to earn his graduate degree in May 2016.

Bercovici, who has passed for 2,473 yards and 19 touchdowns on 219 completions this season, currently sits in the top 30 in the nation in completions per game, passing touchdowns, passing yards, passing yards per game, points responsible for, and points responsible for per game. He is responsible for 144 of ASU’s 283 points this season (51 percent) with 19 passing and five rushing touchdowns. He has two games with five touchdown passes this season, and his three career five-touchdown games are tied for the second most in school history.
