The Cal Bears are ranked second nationally in passing offense behind only Texas Tech, passing for 453 yds per game...their QB, Davis Webb, came from Texas Tech and threw for 403 yds against the Sun Devils in Tech's big win against the Devils in the 2013 Holiday Bowl...BTW, Texas Tech is leading the country in passing so far and we already know that Patrick Mahomes passed for 540 against the Devils a couple of weeks ago, and that the Red Raiders scored 55 pts against the Devils but still lost the game...
Fortunately for us, Cal is last in the PAC in both rushing defense and scoring defense, giving up 300 yds per game rushing and 40 pts per game in points allowed...additionally, Webb is not a scrambler type QB, who can make plays the way Mahomes can, but he is big at 6'5" 230 and is very difficult to tackle...
Therefore, the Devils defense will most probably give up a lot of yardage and points and our offense will need to outscore the Bears in order for us to win, just like what happened against Tech...
If we can rush effectively and avoid turnovers while forcing some then I like our chances...
On another note, the PAC South looks to be pretty wide open these days...
USC goes to Utah this weekend where it will face the Utes with a new starting QB as FR Sam Donald replaces JR Max Browne, so I like the Utes chances in this game...
UCLA hosts Stanford and, if defenses win games and championships, then I like the Cardinal in this contest...Stanford is a well oiled machine these days that knows what their identity is and has the personnel to make it all work...
Colorado visits Oregon but their QB is injured so the Ducks should win this pretty easily...however, the Buffs are much improved and won't be a pushover when the Devils face them in Boulder later in the season...
Washington plays at Arizona and the Huskies are on a roll so like their chances a lot in this game...
So, if the Devils can beat Cal, I think they will be in South title contention as the season progresses...
Does anyone think that the ASU-Cal game will be low scoring..??
Also, does anyone think that there are any dominant teams in the PAC South and/or that the Sun Devils, while picked 5th by the media in the preseason, will not have a chance to win the South title in the coming weeks..??
I think it is going to be very interesting to see how things sort out in the coming weeks...how about you..??
Go Devils!!!
