Gonzalez Earns Spot On Lou Groza Award Watch List

TEMPE, Ariz. - Sun Devil Football student-athlete Zane Gonzalez has been named to the 2015 Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Award Watch List, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced Thursday.

Gonzalez, a Groza Award semifinalist in each of his past two seasons at Arizona State, has 47 career field goals, which is tied for the second most field goals in the nation over the past two seasons. He also notched more than 100 points in both his freshman and sophomore campaigns, including 138 in 2013 and 118 in 2014.

A junior from Deer Park, Texas, Gonzalez is a two-time All-Pac-12 honoree, including a second-team member in 2014 and a first-team recipient in 2013. He finished tied for sixth in the nation with 22 field goals in 2014 and is one of 10 returning kickers to connect on more than 20 fields goals at a rate of 75 percent or higher.

He had a pair of four field goal games in 2014, including the tying and winning kicks in a 19-16 overtime victory against Utah that netted him his third career Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week honor.
