ASU waited patiently until Duke ended its NCAA tournament run and now that it has and with a championship to boot, the process with Jeff Capel will kick into high gear. It remains unclear at this point whether Capel will or won't visit Tempe before making his decision, but logic would tell you that if he waited this long (albeit with his team busy with the NCAA tournament) that he would visit here first. Needless to say that time is of the essence here so I would expect that Tempe visit to take place in the next 48 hours.
In terms of a backup plan, Bobby Hurley is still the primary option here. I independently confirmed the reports that New Mexico State head coach Marvin Menzies is another backup option ASU is considering.
I did confirm the ESPN report that former ASU assistant coach Scott Pera was interviewed for the job, but I have a hard time believing he would be preferred over Hurley/Menzies.
