SAN FRANCISCO[/B] - ARIZONA STATE senior forward Shaquielle McKissic[/B] has been named Pac-12 Men's Basketball Player of the Week for play from Mar. 2-7, the Conference office announced today in a vote of media who cover Pac-12 men's basketball.
The Seattle, Wash., native led the Sun Devils in scoring over two home wins to sweep the Bay Area for the second-straight year for the first time since 1994 and 1995. McKissic averaged 22.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game in the two final regular-season games for ASU. He opened the weekend by dropping 23 points in the 67-62 win over STANFORD, adding a team-high four steals and seven rebounds. The senior followed with a game-high 21 points in ASU's 74-70 victory against CALIFORNIA, his final home game as a Sun Devil, pulling down another seven boards and dishing two assists, two steals and a block. McKissic shot 15-for-28 (.536) from the field in the two games, adding an 11-for-13 (.846) mark from the free-throw line and a 3-for-7 (.429) mark from three-point range. ASU finished the season with a 15-3 record at home, adding to an overall 47-8 home record over the past three years.
The honor marks McKissic's first-career weekly selection. It is Arizona State's 36th weekly selection all-time.
The Sun Devils open the 2015 Pac-12 Men's Basketball Tournament seeded fifth and will play against USC in the opening round on Wednesday, Mar. 11 at 2:40 p.m. PT.
