TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Football redshirt senior quarterback Mike Bercovici has been named to the watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy, known as “College Football’s Premier Award for Community Service.”
The Wuerffel Trophy, presented annually by the All Sports Association in Fort Walton Beach Florida, is a national award that honors the college football player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Bercovici is a team captain and is heavily involved with the community, including hospital visits, youth camps and school speaking engagements. He started three games in 2014 and finished the season with 1,445 yards and 12 touchdowns. He set an NCAA record with 998 passing yards through his first two career starts, and led the Sun Devils to wins over USC and Stanford. He was named to the preseason watch list for the 2015 Maxwell Award, given to the nation’s player of the year.
A two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention, Bercovici graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree in management in May 2014 and is currently enrolled in ASU’s Sports Law and Business program.
Former Sun Devil quarterback Taylor Kelly was one of 12 finalists for the trophy in 2014.
