The big win against Tech has me grinning from ear to ear this morning because in order to win 9-10 or more games this season we had to beat the Red Raiders...
I wasn't worrying about our offense entering the season because I thought the pieces were there to be good and just needed some game experience in order to bloom...
I didn't see any glaring offensive weaknesses against Tech and we scored 68 points, which is pretty darn incredible, even if Tech's defense leaves a lot to be desired...
Lindsey called a great game and Wilkins executed it to near perfection and the new Sparky formation was a work of true genius and one the Red Raiders had no answer for which allowed our Devils to own the Red Zone, which we've never done before under Graham...
Defensively, we were once again Air Raided by a great QB, especially in the first half and I'm trying to figure out why this is again happening, keeping in mind that Mahomes is one of the best QBs in the country...
How much is due to a lack of quality talent at some positions and how much is due to a lack of experience and how much is due to defensive schemes and philosophy and how much is due to poor coaching..??
I think they all factor in but don't know how to weigh each category in the overall evaluation of the defense but if you have an idea please weigh in...
I wonder if a coach like Lindsey was running the defense if he could correct some of our glaring errors given the talent on hand...
I'm not sure that he could but I have some real doubts about Keith Patterson as our DC, keeping in mind that Graham has his fingerprints all over the defensive philosophy and its schemes...
What do you all think..??
Special teams can make or break you and we are in good shape here with a very good senior punter and placekicker...
So, where does this leave us as we have only one more out of conference game before starting PAC play..??
I'm still thinking 9-10 or more wins, as you know, but only if we get some real improvement on defense...
I hope and trust that we won't have a hangover against UTSA the way AU obviously had against Grambling following their loss to BYU...
