The Good....
Manny Wilkins gets almost 200 passing and 100 rushing..
He appeared a little uncomfortable throwing at first.. But he seemed to gather some confidence as the game went on..

The Bad...
Through 3 quarters the sun devils leading receiver had less than 50 yards and their leading rusher had 74..
By contrast NAU had two receivers over 90 yds..

The Ugly..
This much improved secondary that we been hyping and touting gave up 370 passing yards and 174 yds to one receiver and 118 to another.. Which lets be honest we would be understanding if this was Josh Rosen and UCLA, or Oregon, but it was NAU yes the same school that gave up 70 points to UofA last season..

I know that what we want is 250/90 from our QB but there's a lot of new parts and Manny is one of them.. As we all know QB is a tough position which requires a lot of discipline and focus. Manny could potentially get to where ASU needs him to get to, but until then we need to be patient and remember that he is a young QB.. NAUs talent is way up from where it has been in recent years they are still the step child of Arizona College football and should be treated as such when it comes to games... Offensively NAU has a handful of guys that big schools missed out on, and even didn't use properly QB Cookus can clearly play at this level, as well as his WRs Marks and Butler, and let's not forget Taylor the former UW Husky.. That explains why ASU skill players seemed to have their hands full.. The let down there is that it's argued that ASU was losing the battle in the trenches (debatable).. This ASU secondary which was really a problem last season was supposed to be much improved and here we are giving up 370 passing yards this isn't just a secondary problem this is a problem for the entire defense and its down right scary.. We gave up 370 passing yards because we weren't able to efficiently get to the QB and that is unacceptable when your DL is bigger faster and stronger than their OL.. The front 7 HAVE to be able to make their QB panic a little, and I understand that Cookus was releasing passes quickly, but if NAU can have that success it may be something to be concerned about in the future. Also we have to protect our QB 3 sacks on a mobile QB our OL has to do better again I know that there's a lot of new pieces, and fortunately this was NAU for opening night cause if it was TTech the outcome may not be what we got.. We got a week to prepare..

Forks Up,
