Per our friend, Jon Wilner, in the Daily Star this morning...

According to Randy Mueller, a former GM for the Saints and Dolphins, who lives in Seattle and follows the PAC closely...

He doesn't think that most PAC teams are recruiting the right guys for their system with Utah being a big exception and why they have risen to prominence in the conference...

The Utes had only one draft pick while UCLA (6) and ASU (4) combined for 10 picks but only combined for one victory over a team with a winning record which was ASU over UCLA...

Washington had four picks but only won four games and Oregon has almost always had highly rated recruiting classes but only had one player chosen in the draft - Kayvon Thibodeaux...

The state of California led all states in first round selections (Thibodeaux, Drake, McDuffie, Lloyd and Olave) while the Cats and Buffs were shut out in the draft...

That was the fifth time in the past decade that the Cats did not have a player chosen in the draft...

Cincinnati had nine players chosen and the four teams chosen to create the new Big 12 (Cincy, BYU, Houston, UCF) had 14 total draft picks...

In comparison, the 14 team ACC only had 21 selections or only 1.5 per school...

Regarding five star recruits, of the 32 selected in the first round, eight had five star ratings coming out of HS and 12 had four star ratings that proves, I think, that talent is destiny, at least when it comes to reaching the NFL...

Here is a summary of draft picks per school in each P-5 conference...

SEC = 4.6

Big Ten = 3.4

Big 12 = 2.5

PAC = 2.1

ACC = 1.5

Sure looks like the PAC has a lot of work to do to start improving their football fortunes and we'll see how well our Sun Devils do in this brave new world that is college football today...

We'll see what Herm and his staff can do with two and three star recruits and transfers moving forward with the NFL model as their guide...

Sure hope and pray that it doesn't turn out like what has happened with the Cats over the recent past...

As we already know, the Sun Devils are way behind the curve when it comes to recruiting thanks to the NCAA investigation and lack of any real NIL collectives to keep players from transferring and/or getting needed high quality players out of the transfer portal...

Any thoughts..??

Go Devils!!!
