not much meat here but good to know that the P4 attended en masse with not only AD's and coaches, but school Presidents, etc ....... as much as I Hate Politics trying to govern college athletics, at least the conferences understand that making changes is well beyond their grasp and power, so appealing to what very few sensible political reps we have is probably sort of a last gasp
The good ol Gravy Train days of scholarships and tuition and training table and access to luxuries most students dont have access to are over and the new reality is $M$M for all.........and TV money/ new donations can only support a % of the new reality for vast majority of schools
And dont blame the kids on this - 90% of the kids understand bottom line and what is manageable/sustainable. The lawyers, agents and "family reps" are looking for their gravy train..........without huge help and oversight from a higher governing body, the next domino to fall will be all the Olympic sports, and yes that includes W Basketball as without having access to Denver's research am pretty certain they are one of the biggest Loss Leaders..........No way can universities continue to absorb the $$$M deficits from athletics
Fingers crossed there are a handful of smart politicians who are willing to work with P4/all conferences to provide guardrails and sensible "benefits" so we can continue to enjoy watching college golf, baseball, hockey, etc etc...........at the end of the day there is still one stat that says a lot when it comes to college athletics - 4-5 % will actually play professionally, the other 95% will need to find jobs by using their college degrees.......which are provided to each of them as part of their compensation
