Good morning fellow Sun Devils,
With Dust losing his wife I wanted to do a post as a homage to him. Losing a spouse can be the equivalent to losing a major piece of yourself. No matter how many times you rehash the experiences, moments and ups and downs, until your own time to go, you will be reunited. It takes a strong man to keep his integrity, mourn for a moment and arise with strength to lead his children and surrounding people by example through the hardship. All this while suffering tremendous pain. We as a sun devil community look up to Dust and view him as a man of great wisdom. God bless you and your family!
Over the years we as fans have consumed various versions of sun devil football. Some good times (Jake Plummer days) and some bad times (vontaze burfict and Erickson years as a whole). If you are on this board then you are here because you love sun devil football. But sometimes our relationship can get rocky. Everyone watching that game on Friday probably experienced pain points and joy similar to years past.
Pain points: missed tackles and blown coverages. Bad passes. Muffed punt returns. Uc Davis and New Mexico last year. Poor defensive and offensive schemes or play calling. Or more personally for me is the feeling that I'm losing precious time with people I love to a losing cause.
Joy points:
Beating Stanford. Crushing notes same. Crushing U if A . Harry making a one handed catch. Richard making players bounce off of him. Ballage running over players. Randall with a pick 6. Sutton with a sack. Osweiler to Robinson. DJ Foster as a class act. Beating USC and ucla 2/4 the last 4 years. Hanging 62 on USC and hearing kiffin got fired at tarmac.
There are so many pains and joys that I can't list all of them and I'm only referencing recent years because painful memories fade over time. Over time we don't a parent forgets the painful memories of staying up all night with a screaming baby and just how stressful that time of life was. Instead in ten years you mostly remember the beauty of the child and the bond that was forged. So is our relationship to sun devil football!
I no longer remember anything about the Danny Sullivan year except for a pass to win the game against UW to McGaha. However I do remember many great moments from the past that keeps me happy enough to keep participating.
True - ASU continues to struggle at moments in pass coverage and tacking but if they keep on having enough stops to win then I won't remember. I will remember Ballage 8 touchdown game. I won't remember UTSA at all.
Graham isn't perfect. It he's statistically one of the asu has ever had. His offenses (which he helped design) is statistically one of the best asu has ever had. His version is even better now that it truly has a power run scheme. I will always remember the Ballage and Richard era. I will always remember Tim White and Zane Gonzalez.
My point is that Graham has outperformed (ws vs Ls) any other coach since joining the PAC . He has outrecruited, won more, more scoring, than any other coach in the PAC era.
My prediction:
In two years this offense will do legendary things. The special teams will continue to dominate and after Graham adjusts the defensive scheme (which is already evolving) we will get the biggest memory of all. I am proud of the kids academic improvements as a team. I am proud when Graham releases kids or sticks to his word when it comes to punishment (see USC, SMU, UCLA, Baylor for community humiliation and parents of daughters who are raped by boundaries houligans and go unpunished). I'll take a disciplinarian over a spineless win only coach. This is an American issue. So last of all I will remember Graham as a guy who kept his integrity, won a lot of games and respected the history of sun devil nation.
What say you?
Over the years do you feel more pain or joy? Try and be sincere.
Also will you feel more pain or joy from this team in two years and what is your prediction in that time?
God bless you all and lets power up and keep Dust and his family in our prayers!
