Today's Topic = Bowl Season with our Sun Devils
While this has been a Bah Humbug Bowl Season, at least our Sun Devils are in a bowl game that matters and is not like so many other bowl games that don't matter in the least...
With over 3,300 college football players in the transfer portal and many others opting out of playing in bowls for "business reasons," haven't bowl games basically become irrelevant these days...
I know coaches often leave for another job at this time of year but they are basically few and far between, compared to what is happening with players, who don't have a scholarship buy-out penalty associated with them leaving, either, as far as I know...
I know it's nothing personal and just business but it sure has undercut the bowl season in the process, if you ask me...
And, even with the playoff bowls, some fairly prominent players have opted out of participating for their teams, although it hasn't impacted the Sun Devils all that much, it appears...
And, as 13.5 point underdogs to the Longhorns, they will need every key player available and ready to lock horns with the Longhorns in Atlanta...
Are the Longhorns all that much better on paper than our Sun Devils..??
They have lost as many games this season as our Sun Devils, although both losses were to Georgia, while ours were to Texas Tech and Cincinnati...
Clemson lost to Texas but made a game of it in the second half before succumbing to the Longhorns 38-24...
Can we even score that many points against a Texas defense that is second in the country in defensive power success, that means they are extremely effective on 3rd and 4th downs and 1st and second downs in goal to go situations...plus they have 20 INTs this season...
And, we know Dilly tends to be a riverboat gambler in those sorts of situations...
So, something has to give, doesn't it..??
Can Cam Skattebo run for over 100 yards and can Sam Leavitt pass for over 200 yards and can we score TDs in the Red Zone, etc...
And, what about special teams..??
Texas FG kicker - Bert Auburn - has made 61 of 77 FG attempts during his career with the Longhorns and what is the Devils answer to that..??
Well, we are about to find out, aren't we, come New Years Day in the Peach Bowl...
At least we aren't playing in the Fenway Park or Pinstripe Bowl this portal ravaged bowl season...
Although one of those bowls would've been more appropriate for the Colorado Buffaloes that laid a huge egg yesterday in the Alamo Bowl...
BYU was on a mission in that game, that's for sure...
So, the Cyclones, Cougars and our Sun Devils have all won at least 11 games as part of the Big-12 this season...
Can the Devils make it 12 or more moving forward..??
