Mike Bercovici:
Opening Statement:
“First of all just want to thank the fans for coming out this Friday night. The whiteout was awesome. I’ve been here five years and never seen one of those; it was a pretty surreal experience. It’s just another win and another step up the mountain moving into conference play, you know we are ready to go. Credit to the Lobos– they did a good job tonight, but we are excited moving forward and to get this team really rolling.”
Movement opened up at the start of the 3rd quarter:
“It’s exciting when you can make plays happen with your feet. It opens up everything in the entire offense.”
Offense (stalled in first and got going in the second and in second half):
“In college football you got to convert on third-down runs. We missed that early on… We rushed some decisions, but once we started going, we started firing and playing fast.”
“Offensive line did a great job of getting the ball fast. Offensive line and whiteouts were playing full speed, and when we do that we feel like we can’t be stopped.”
If we are ready for the big pac-12 game (USC):
“This is what we work for the entire off season, is playing big games.”
“All it is, is another step up the mountain. Another step, another game, we are just excited to get back out to practice.”
“Our mindset is already on Saturday.”
On linebackers and protection on front:
“Our offensive guards, especially up front, did a great job communicating.”
“We made the adjustments in between series. They did a good job, they locked the pressure and I feel we got after them. It’s all off to the offense.”
On running:
“Oh I love it. That’s what Coach Graham tells me: It’s everything about being a football player is being tough, and that’s what it takes to run this offense – whether its five yards or 550 yards it doesn’t matter, being a threat in the run is a huge part of this offense. When you have great running backs like him (Richard) and a great offensive line, we just take what the defense gives us and we move on with the next play.”
Demario Richard:
On explosive play:
“Getting comfortable in our offense, finding our tempo, that’s what our offense is for.”
Feeling comfortable on carrying larger load:
“We’ll be healthy and once we are healthy this offense is really going to start building.”
“We are just being patient and doing what we are supposed to do and we’ll keep winning games.”
Jordan Simone:
On facing triple option:
“Yeah triple option is, you know, like I said last week, it’s very discipline-oriented style of offense and if one guy doesn’t do what he’s coached to do, you see what happens in that long run that they had and you know, they really only had one play tonight and we are very fortunate to have the coaches that we do every week. They really coach the heck out of us and we’re excited to move forward and get into conference play.”
On Berco’s athletic ability:
“Ten out of ten. He’s got a great shuttle time and we both have skinny legs and I think that’s something that, you know God just gave us is just those legs just keep on turning and moving. When Mike pulls the ball, it’s beautiful, it’s poetry in motion. I think people give him a lot of credit for being a great athlete already, but I think he’s even more of an athlete than that. I would compare him to Michael Vick from Madden 2000. He can really use his feet, when he does he makes magic happen.”
