Team was practicing in their maroon helmets today after breaking in the Desert Ice helmets yesterday.
One new name to add to the injured players list and that is Sam Jones. He was dressed in practice uniform and was slightly limping on the sidelines so this is seemingly some kind of foot/leg injury. He’s one of the more capable reserves on this group, and can play both left tackle and left guard, so worth following his progress in the practices leading up to the season opener.
Grant Martinez who is wearing a green jersey has been out of his boot for a few days now and could be full contact come Wednesday. Coltin Gerhart is no longer wearing an arm sling and is still in a green jersey. Didn’t see any changes to those who wore green jerseys yesterday.
Scouts from the Seahawks, Jaguars and Texas were in attendance.
From the brief team tempo segment we saw, the defense was generally swarming very well to the ball, and not giving the offense much room to operate either running the ball or having time to throw it. JoJo Wicker and Jay Jay Wilson got sacks. Kalen Ballage with a good 10-yard run was really the only notable play on offense we saw.
Depth chart we saw today and as always wouldn’t read too much into it as players are being experimented in different positions:
First-team offense: Mike Bercovici (QB), Kalen Ballage (RB), D.J. Foster (WR), De’Chavon Hayes (WR), Ellis Jefferson (WR), Kody Kohl (TE), Evan Goodman (LT), Christian Westerman (LG), Nick Kelly (C), Stephon McCray (RG), and Billy McGehee (RT).
First-team defense: JoJo Wicker (End), Demetrius Cherry (nose), Tashon Smallwood (Tiger), Antonio Longino (DEVIL), D.J. Calhoun (WILL), Salamo Fiso (SAM), James Johnson (SPUR), Lloyd Carrington (CB), Solomon Means (CB), Jordan Simone (S), and Armand Perry (S).
Second-team offense: Manny Wilkins(QB), Jacom Brimhall (RB), Eric Lauderdale (WR), Gary Chambers (WR), Devin Lucien (WR), Raymond Epps (TE), Zach Robertson (LT), Stephon McCray (LG), Cade Cote (C), Devin Goodman (RG), and Quinn Bailey (RT).
Second-team defense: Edmond Boateng (DE), Renell Wren (Nose), Emmanuel Dayries (Tiger), Jay Jay Wilson (Devil) Carlos Mendoza (WILL), Chans Cox (SAM), Marcus Ball (SPUR), Ronald Lewis (CB), Kareem Orr (CB), Das Tautalatasi (S), and Chad Adams (S).
I didn’t see Kweishi Brown, Demario Richard and Laiu Moeakiola at practice, but that’s not to say that they didn’t join practice later on after the media was asked to leave.
Couple of things that caught my eye during the brief time media observed practice, was Marcus Ball doing individual drills with the Devil backers, and D.J. Foster doing tackling drills with the secondary and I certainly wouldn’t read much at all into the latter.
Please post any questions you have here.
