Was in town to go to this game. Incredible. Sun Devil Stadium looks awesome with the new renovations and the I’ve got to say, the new lights were actually really cool. Hopefully they can make some kind of tradition out of that. #newlightsNewTeam
- Props to all of the coaches for rallying the troops to win this one. It’s not easy to keep a team engaged after the last month, and they showed up ready to play today. Great job!
- The Herm era continues to be defined by BIG, FUN wins (Mich St 2x, Utah last year, Arizona last year, Cal this year, Oregon tonight) and BAD, HEAD SCRATCHING losses (Colorado 2x, OSU, UCLA, SDSU, Fresno State).
- Likens has a nice game. There were still some really head scratching calls (tunnel screen on 3&G from the 8, run on 3&10 from the O40 in the 3rd, etc) but he also had some excellent calls (double move to free up Darby for the first TD, gutsy call on 3&11 to throw deep and seal the game, etc).
- but I would just like to point out that if people feel the need to go out of their way and mention that you had an above average game...that’s how you know there’s been a problem. (BTW, this happened last year too when people were screaming for him to get the ball to NKeal, and then there was the game he FINALLY gave him a lot of targets, and everyone felt the need to pat Likens on the head for it as if that wasn’t what he was supposed to be doing all year long)
- Jayden is just the real deal. He is special, we are lucky.
- The defense got burned for a couple late TDs, but for about 3 1/2 quarters they played AWESOME. Big props to them.
- We were also helped by Justin Herbert making Wild Thing Vaughn look like he was a control pitcher. Ralph has pointed out multiple times that accurate QBs tear up ASU, where QBs who struggle with accuracy (even if they have bigger arms) don’t fare as well. That was certainly true tonight.
- Jayden has got to figure out when sliding is not the answer. He could have cost ASU the game with the slide toward the end of the game.
- We’re 2/3rds through my prediction from 3 weeks ago that ASU would lose to OSU (check ) and beat Oregon due to a poor Herbert performance (check!). All that’s left is beating those fools from down south. Go Devils!
