I was just wondering how you all felt about his tenure at ASU..??

He was hired in July 2011 as Chief Operating Officer for coordinating both the new athletic district and the renovation of SDS...

He became the Sun Devils AD in March of 2012 after Lisa was fired...

A month later he unveiled the futuristic stadium preliminary design that had shade surrounding the stadium and looked like a UFO or some version of the "flying nun's" head dress, etc...

The tentative budget was in excess of $300M if memory serves me correctly...

We all know that turned out to be a pipe dream as the final stadium design does not include any shade, although an athletic (football) office and training center is now part of the north end zone plans...

The budget is set at $256M and the renovation will be completed by the 2017 football season...

He didn't make any major hires during his tenure as LL was still AD when Graham was hired and Herb was still the BB coach and Esmay was still the baseball coach, when he left for Texas...

He did, however, chose not to keep Clint Myers as the Sun Devil softball coach as he thought Clint was asking for way too much in wanting his boys to help him coach, which would have cost the program more money, etc...

So, we lost a proven elite coach because it was going to cost another couple hundred thousand dollars or more to meet Clint's desires...

He also put a fundraising campaign in place to restore Camp T for Graham but he had some reservations about it, and you have to wonder why the athletic dept couldn't come up with the $150K to get it done...guess he was just trying to prove a point about the fans wanting things but not being willing to pay for them...

He was also approached about taking on hockey as a Sun Devil sport as part of their athletic program but he had no interest in that by all accounts...

To me at least, it was like he was a "no can do" sort of guy while now, with Ray Anderson, we seem to have a "yes, can do" sort of guy who doesn't shy away from big ideas no matter the obstacles, etc...

Is that a fair assessment on my part..??

If I had to grade Patterson's tenure at ASU is would be a "C" as he did okay but nothing much special that I can see and in some instances probably made some poor choices...

How would you grade his tenure..??

I just don't think he was anything special at ASU and was another "nothing special" athletic director that followed several other "no big deal" ADs at ASU...

What am I missing here...anything that would change my perception of him..??

In any event, it's great to have an AD that won't accept mediocrity and wants ASU to excel in everything and seems to be willing to act to make that goal happen, regardless of the obstacles, etc...

Championships or Bust...Go Devils!!!
