Howdy Mates...
Today's Topic = Glimpse of Normalcy
It may not be perfect by a long shot but football, in the air, for real now, is a pleasant state of affairs...
Like me, most here watched the Chiefs beat the Texans in a one-sided game that the Chiefs won on Thursday night before several thousands of fans in Arrowhead stadium in Kansas City...
We then watched at least a couple of college games yesterday, with the one at Kansas State, that included a pretty full student section, provide a more normal sorts of game atmosphere that was appreciated by all watching, I think...
Those students and other fans, in the stands, during the game against Arkansas State were nice to watch, even though those fans were not rewarded with a K-State victory, as the Red Wolves pulled off the upset...
I think there were also some fans at the Notre Dame vs Duke game, that was pretty entertaining for most of the game, that the Irish won after a tough tussle with the Blue Devils...
There weren't any fans in the stands in the Clemson vs Wake Forest game, later in the day, that the Tigers won handily but it didn't seem to make much difference to me as I watched the game...
Which raises this question...does it make any difference to you whether their are fans in the stands or not..??
Also, if you were allowed to do so, would you attend a game during the pandemic..??
Would it be any more dangerous than going to the local grocery store to pick up some groceries for the week..??
In any event, we found out that the world, as we now know it, is not in collapse, although it isn't thriving either...
But, what we have these days is much better than nothing at all, that's for sure...
Does anyone here think that football should not be played, under any circumstances, these days..??
So, the ACC and Big12 had a full compliment of games, for the most part, and the SEC will get started in a couple of weeks...
However, as we all know, both the Big-10 and PAC-12 will be late to the party, in an overabundance of caution, as many fans believe, that will, at the very least, allow for a comparison to be made between the schools that are playing now vs those that are not...
My guess is that the ACC, Big12 and SEC will prove to have taken the right path by plowing ahead, even in the face of the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, and will be the wiser and more economically advanced for doing so...
Let's hope that the PAC "powers that be" get their act together this week and decide to play in the coming weeks...
Who knows, maybe we'll have an opening season kick-off game, over the Thanksgiving weekend, featuring our Sun Devils vs the Wildcats, down here in Southern Arizona, that traditionally ends our season, rather than starting it...
That might be a lot of fun and a good way to kick-off the holiday season in late November...
That way a ten game schedule would take us to February, during the dead of winter, that would certainly be novel...
Just like this virus...
IMHO, football just wasn't meant to be played in the Spring, which would put a huge strain on the players to then turn around and be ready for a regular Fall season, if possible, in 2021...
I'm for the season starting as soon as possible, which would be the end of October or thereabouts, if the PAC gave the go ahead this week but I could live with a Thanksgiving start of the season if that is the way things turn out...
In the meantime, I'll keep watching whatever is available and be happy to have it...
I know all of you will be doing the same...
For a glimpse of normalcy is a real treasure these days...
G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!
