Mornin Mates...

Today's Topic = Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitude

According to Athlon's preseason college football magazine, borrowing from Jimmy Buffett's hit song by the same name, that's what might be happening with Nebraska football this upcoming season as it has made a lot of changes to its football program under Scott Frost since last year...

The Huskers kick-off college football next weekend when they play Northwestern in Dublin, Ireland, which was why I was reading about them recently...

And, although they only went 3-9 last season, eight of those losses were by single digits or by a TD or less...

Which means, I think, that if a few things had gone right, instead of wrong, for them, they very easily could've been 9-3 instead of 3-9...

In those nine losses they only scored 20 points per game while their opponents scored 28 points per game...

Now let's contrast that to what the Sun Devils did last season in their five losses...

In those five losses, they only averaged a little more than 16 PPG while their opponents scored 28 PPG...

That's four less points per game than what the Huskers did in their losses, while opponents scored about the same...

Overall, the Devils scored an average of 28.4 points per game which was good for sixth place in the PAC...

And, the Devils defense only allowed 21 points per game which was good for first place in the PAC...

I bring this up since I feel, like many others on this site, that we could go anywhere from 3 to 9 wins this year, depending on how our offense and defense does this season...

I think our defense will keep us in most games the way the Huskers defense did for them last season but wonder if our offense won't have the same difficulty scoring enough points to win those close games...

Of course, the PAC is much different than the Big 10 and there are many variables that go into how a game can and will turn out, but both the Huskers and Sun Devils seem to have similar changed latitudes and attitudes this year, than what they had last year...

Scott Frost has a bunch of new coaches on his staff and doesn't have a lot of starters returning on either side of the ball and will be breaking in a new QB...

That's pretty much the same for our Sun Devils although our records were far different last season...

But, who here thinks that we would have won eight games against the likes of Oklahoma, Mich St, Minn, and Wisconsin on the road and against Mich, Purdue, Ohio St, and Iowa at home...

None of those teams won less than nine games and most won 10 or more games, while we beat only one team with a winning record last season in the PAC...

And, Lincoln Riley, who is now at USC, averaged 11 wins a season while at Oklahoma...

So, will different latitudes, along with new attitudes, bring us closer to nine wins this season or will we be more like what the Huskers were last season playing in the Big 10..??

Oh so close, in so many games, but not quite enough to get it done...

For what it's worth, here's a comparison of these four QBs as they may relate to what I've been talking about in this post...

Jayden Daniels
- transferred to LSU - last season at ASU he had 2,380 passing yds - 10 TD passes vs 10 INTs - QB rating = 67.2 - rushed for 710 yds

Emory Jones - transferred to ASU - last season at Florida had 2,734 passing yds - 19 TD vs 13 INT - QB rating = 69.4 - rushed for 759 yds

Adrian Martinez - transferred to K-State from Nebraska - last season had 2,863 passing yds - 14 TD vs 10 INT - QB rating = 72.5 - rushed for 525 yds

Cam Rising - still at Utah - had 2,493 passing yds last season - 20 TD vs 5 INT - QB rating = 84.2 - rushed for 499 yds...

Cam won the Cheeseburgers in Paradise Award last season as he took the Utes to the Rose Bowl after winning the PAC championship...

So, who of the new QB transformers will win the award this year for their new team, provided any of them will turn out to be transformative for their new teams..??

Kansas St was 8-5 and 4-5 in the Big 12 last year, while ASU was 8-5 and 6-3 in the PAC, and LSU was 6-7 and 3-5 in the SEC...

Place your bets here...Cheeseburgers in Paradise Award...:)

Well, we're only a week away from the start of college football that starts next week in Ireland and the rest of the college football world starts in two weeks...

Fingers crossed that Changes in Latitudes, along with Changes in Attitudes, will do the trick for our Sun Devils this upcoming season...

G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!
