Mornin Mates...

Today's Topic = It Just Takes Six

The NCAA minimum requirement to be a recognized conference and be eligible for the national playoffs is six members...

As long as the PAC has that in place and as long as one of its members is one of the Top Six conference winners in competition for the playoff picture, then that's all that is needed to be in the playoffs...

It would be an automatic bid so what's not to like if you are either Oregon or Washington, etc...

Or for academic heavyweights but football lightweights in Cal and Stanford...

And, obviously the same can be said for all of the rest of the Four Corner schools...AU, ASU and Utah...

Colorado was a lightweight in the PAC, as it didn't field a baseball team and didn't ever do much in the PAC in football, etc...

So, not a huge loss as far as those things go...;)

But, our friend Wilner and others think that the Big 12's next move will involve the Cats because it makes the most geographic and status sense, since the Cats have an elite basketball program...

Let's face it, both ASU and AU sit in the Southwest as much or more than they sit in the Pacific where wine and cheese are standard fare...

This part of the average regional fan landscape prefers Mexican beer, tacos, beans and rice more than a Napa Valley fine wine and some aged cheese...

So, AU to the Big 12 would probably work for them but one wonders what the Arizona Board of Regents might have to say about that especially as it relates to academics...

There is no way ASU is going to condescend to go to the Big 12 under Crow, as we all should know by now, even if it means athletic irrelevance in the future...

But, if George K cannot deliver a media package in the vicinity of what the Big 12 now has all of that may change for many PAC schools, even if ASU does not go along with it...

I mean, snobbishness can only take you so far in this college athletic world, right..??

How many schools will take that conceit down with the PAC ship if it comes to that..??

Hopefully, it won't come to anything like that but we are talking about the PAC that never seems to see those things coming...

As our commissioner and school bigwigs keep pointing out to us..."we sure didn't see that one coming"...

Fingers crossed that things work out for us down the road, especially as it relates to our upcoming football season...

Will six wins be enough to make us smile this season..??

And, can the PAC keep a minimum of six schools in place to chase a national playoff spot in the future...??

Stay tuned...:)

G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!
