What do you want to talk about this morning..??
How about American Pharoah winning the Triple Crown which hasn't been done in almost 40 years..??
I'm pretty sure that ASU won the WAC Triple Crown back when we the Sun Devils won conference titles in football, basketball and baseball, all in the same season...heck, they may have done it more than once...
We haven't done it in the PAC but maybe that is possible these days with the administrative staff and coaches we now have in place in those sports...
Or would you rather talk about Tiger Woods, who shot an 85 yesterday at the Memorial Tournament, and what has happened to him since he was chased around his house and yard by a really pissed off wife following multiple bouts of infidelity several years ago..??
We still are not sure whether she was armed with one of his drivers, a long iron or a short iron but we know, for a fact, that she was really upset with him and that his off the links trysts cost him tens of millions of dollars as part of the ensuing divorce...
Or would you rather talk about Ray Anderson "Rekindling the House of Heat" done by Joe Healey in the latest ASU alumni magazine...
We'll see how the "re-invention" of the Sun Devil athletic adventures turn out under his leadership but he sure looks like a GQ model on the cover of the magazine, which is something that Greg Byrne will never be able to do at AU, if you ask me...
Or how about Colin Cowherd saying that James Harden is a great talent but isn't a great leader because he was more about himself than about his team, if I followed the conversation correctly...
I don't know about that but it got me thinking about someone like Pat Tillman who led by example and was all about the team first...plus, when he spoke his mind people listened, even coaches...
Chip Hale, who played at AU and is now the D-Backs skipper, once waltzed into Jerry Kindall's office as a freshman, and told the coach that the Cats needed new baseball shoes, because the ones they were using were too heavy and not easy to run in and, after Kindall got over the boldness of Chip's behavior, he decided that Hale was right and that the team needed new shoes...
Kindall went on to say.."right from that moment, I saw him as a leader"...
Which brings me to our football team and whether we have the "leadership" necessary to win the PAC this year..??
I look to players like Berco, who waited patiently for his turn to lead the Devils, and DJ Foster who could have gone pro but chose to return for his senior year and Christian Westerman along the OL, who has NFL talent, and some guys on defense that have been in the program awhile and seem to lead by example...
I know we have a lot of young talent on the team but we also have many players who are seniors and won't be around after this year that include Berco, Foster, four OL starters, some receivers and many on the defensive side of the ball, including 3/4 of our secondary...
So, if experience tends to add leadership to one's skill set, isn't this the year the Devils probably need to win the PAC..??
Graham and his staff are all about building a "team culture or concept" and if experience is just as important as talent and produces leadership, then isn't this the year for the Sun Devils to win it all..??
On another note, the Star points out this morning that AU is finally going to offer some on-line undergraduate degrees, something that ASU has been doing for years that has netted them tens of millions of dollars in fees, and a big splash recently with the Starbucks partnership which, I think, shows a lot of leadership by Crow and others...
So, what say you about some of these matters..??
Is James Harden "just" a great talent..??
Do the Devils have enough "leadership" to win the PAC this year..??
Is Tiger a "has been" already..??
Is Ray Anderson the real deal or just another pretty face in the PAC crowd..??
Can the Devils win the PAC Triple Crown sometime soon..??
