Today's Topic = Groundhog Day
Like Bill Murray in his 1993 movie by the same name, I'm repeatedly having to relive the same sort of Sun Devil basketball season all over again...
They tend to be monotonous, unpleasant and repetitive, season after season, and there is no sign that this time loop of sorts is going to end anytime soon...
Yesterday was another classic example of losing to the Cats that always have more talent than us, especially as that relates to their bench...
Hurley is now 4-16 against the Cats and I'm sure that is in line with how we have fared under previous Sun Devil coaches in this rivalry...
I think Bobby has more technical fouls than any of our previous coaches but that isn't something to gloat over, either...
He is passionate and emotional, that hasn't elevated our program as passion and grit, without enough talent compared to nationally ranked teams, like we have in the Big-12, is getting us nowhere fast...
In many games we just get pushed around by bigger and stronger players and we don't have much of a bench that can intervene in a positive manner to win games for us...
We just run out of gas during the final 4-5-6 minutes of games, while a team like the Cats is exploiting that circumstance, since their bench is deeper and better than our bench...
We are now 12-9 and 3-7 in conference play and, unless we just about run the table with our remaining games, there will not be a trip to March Madness...
Is that really a surprise given that we were only picked 12th in the preseason and might not even make that mark at the conclusion of the season...
It was sad the way the game ended but true to form in that we couldn't keep up with the Cats in the final minutes of the game...
And, we lost our composure the way Bobby loses his on a regular basis during games...
They were trash talking but also backing it up when it counted most while we just didn't have an answer...
So, the winter is going to last through the rest of the season and when Spring beckons we'll see what our AD is up to when it comes to evaluating our basketball program under Bobby...
I hope his evaluation isn't as poor as our ability or lack thereof to break a press during games...
In the Bill Murray movie he wakes up every morning to the radio playing "I got you Babe"...
Does anyone here know what is playing on our Sun Devil radio when we get up on Groundhog Day in the desert..??
At least the weather is getting warmer which is a huge plus for me...
Maybe that's a clue as to what our radios should be playing when we wake up in the Spring...Bob Dylan's "Shelter From The Storm"...
