Mornin Mates...
Today's Topic = If You Had Told Me
A week ago that Cam would be drafted before Shedeur in the NFL draft I would have thought you crazy...
Cam went in about the place the pundits placed him but not so with Shedeur who fell all the way to the fifth round while Cam was taken in the fourth round...
So, why were all of those pundits wrong about Shedeur..??
After all, he had his number retired by the Buffs after the season and had helped raise the lowly Buffs, along with Travis Hunter, to nine wins this past season...
Plus, his father is the legendary Deion Sanders who was a great football player in the NFL and as a coach had turned the Colorado football program around...
So, was it because the NFL teams weren't buying into the Prime Time hype machine the way the media were portraying the situation (that he was the second best QB in the draft)..??
And, as the second best QB in the draft, he was supposed to be taken no later than the second round...
But, Cleveland traded up in order to get him as the best player available at the start of the fifth round, that seemed to make sense to them...
We're just pleased that Cam got picked and will be going to the Big Apple to play for the NY Giants...
And, he was the only Sun Devil drafted that makes what happened this past season, when the Devils won the Big-12, all that more remarkable, if you ask me...
Dilly got it done in only his second year at ASU and it would seem that next year during the NFL draft that we might have a few more taken than just one...
We certainly are going to have one of the best QBs in the land leading our Sun Devils in Sam Leavitt and he might be a round one draft pick, if he lives up to his preseason billing next season...
There are a lot more season ticket holders this year than last thanks to winning the conference and making the playoffs, but there were only about 3,000 in attendance at the Fan Fest on Friday night...
While West Virginia had over 10,000 watch their football team for their spring game under new coach Rich Rod...
Of course, there are more things to do in the Valley this time of year than there are to do in Morgantown...
On another note, with the transfer portal now closed, it is nice to know that ASU did not have many meaningful defections from its football roster this spring...
By comparison, Prime Time's Bling culture at CU has had some noted defections but if he is the coach that he thinks he is, then it will be no big deal...
Relatedly, Jaden Rashada, who has made a pile of money riding his reputation in college, is going to end up at Sacramento State of all places...
And, the ex-Tenn QB, whose ego was bigger than his team, is now headed to UCLA where they will be paying him a lot less than he was making from the Vols...
So, maybe some sanity is returning to the college sports marketplace where much of the NIL money spent on big-shots didn't really pay off all that much for many teams, including our men's BB team this past season...
Now we have a long hot summer to look forward to and the rest of spring to see if our Sun Devil baseball team can make the playoffs this year...
They got a much needed series sweep against BYU but still have a lot of work to do in order to qualify for the post season playoffs this year...
Well, it's another great spring day to be a Sun Devil...
BTW, if you had told me prior to last football season that we would win the Big-12 championship and make the college playoffs, I would have thought that you were indeed crazy...
G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!
