Today's Topic = Has The Sun Devil Force Awakened..??
I figure that we'll have the answer to that question by the time the new Star Wars release "The Force Awakens" arrives in theaters on 12-18-15 since our season will be over...all except our bowl game or playoff games...
I'm not sure that the anticipation of this season will reach the fevered pitch that the new Star Wars movie will produce but I bet that if the Devils go unbeaten in September that there will be standing room only crowds at Sun Devil Stadium for the rest of the season...
I watched the Game Day show on ESPN yesterday and the Devils received a lot of love on the show, as Kirk Herbstreit picked the Sun Devils to win the PAC and go on to play LSU in the Final Four Playoff bowl series, and Desmond Howard also picked the Devils to win the PAC South before losing to Stanford for the title...
So, the Devils were front and center in the conversation that included teams like Ohio St, LSU, Bama, Florida St and a few other elite programs on Game Day and when has that ever happened before..??
This is exactly what Coach Graham has envisioned for the Sun Devil program, right..??
Of course, it's one thing to "talk" about such things and quite another to actually achieve such things but it is nice to be included in these sorts of conversations, isn't it..??
It should also be mentioned that Desmond Howard also picked Texas A&M to win the SEC and make it to the playoffs as well, and the last I looked the Aggies were a three point favorite to beat us next Saturday in Houston, so the talk about a Sun Devil awakening could end pretty quickly I would guess if we got thumped in that game...
BTW, Herbie's Final Four included Ohio St, Oklahoma, ASU and LSU, with OSU facing and beating Oklahoma and ASU facing and losing to LSU, and Ohio St then beating LSU for the title...
Again, none of this means much but it is very nice to be included in such talk on such a high profile show that reached millions of viewers nationally...
Conduct Unbecoming...No, we're not going to talk about Bo's indiscretion but rather about Sark's full blown meltdown at USC a week ago, where he was addressing fans and boosters at a promotional event, when he had to be yanked off the stage by his AD following the use of inappropriate profanity and sentiments directed at other PAC teams, while he was obviously drunk...
The interesting thing about this matter is how the punishment for his behavior contrasts with that of Bo's, where he had to resign his ASU coaching job, while Sark isn't really facing much of any punishment as far as I can see...
So, let me ask you this...if Bo had gotten up in front of a Sun Devil crowd in an intoxicated condition and embarrassed the program like Sark did at USC what would his punishment have been..??
Do you think he might have either been fired or at least suspended for 3-4 games as a result of that conduct..??
If I was the PAC commissioner, I would suspend Sark for the first month of the upcoming season, where he couldn't return to his coaching job until October, and I would tell USC that they better stop serving alcohol in their locker room following games or at any times as far as that is concerned, which I think has already happened, but I'd make sure it happened there and wherever else around the league it is happening...
So, you have an assistant coach at ASU, who lost his job because he dated a young lady who was of age, just like him, that violated a romance and fraternization rule at the school, and contrast that to a head coach in the league, who goes on a public stage and embarrasses the school and the conference with his drunken, profanity laced behavior, and yet is going to be allowed to coach the Trojans, as if nothing happened, starting next week when the Trojans face Arkansas St at home...
Are you freaking kidding me..??
Talk about an injustice...
Okay, I've now gotten that off my chest and will now concentrate like a well aimed laser on our upcoming game against TAMU next weekend...
The keys to victory will be who wins the turnover and rushing battles during the game and who has more explosive plays and who better prevents explosive plays...to win the rushing battle our OL will have to play well and to prevent big plays we will need a good DL pass rush in order to be effective...
