The Bears ran the read option (R.O.) approx. 4 or 5 times in the first half against the Cards, with Cutler keeping and running at least twice, and gaining around 10+ yards each time for first downs. Cutler also kept and threw out of the R.O. and completed the pass. The R.O. also setup a few nice runs by the R.B.
If Cutler can run out of the R.O. than so can Berco. When Berco did keep on the R.O. in the second half Friday night, he had some nice runs, including a Berco TD, and our offense clicked. I do think the Devils were still trying to be vanilla in the run game on Friday, but decided to let Berco keep at the start of the second half, with only a 10-0 lead. I am hoping the Devils continue to let Berco keep more in the R.O. against USC. And we definitely won't be seeing anymore vanilla offense as we start conference play.
