Four guys were in green again, and Tim White was unfortunately one of them, but he switched numbers so that has to be a good sign...right?
I was by the running backs again and they were doing some combination of resistance drills and ball security.
Demario Richard drew praise for going particularly hard on a rep and Gump got complimented for improving as the drill went on.
11-on-11
First-team offense: Mike Bercovici (QB), Demario Richard (RB), D.J. Foster (WR), Devin Lucien (WR), Gump Hayes (WR), Kody Kohl (TE), Evan Goodman (LT), Christian Westerman (LG), Nick Kelly (C), Vi Teofilo (RG), and Billy McGehee (RT)
First-team defense: Edmond Boateng (DE), Demetrius Cherry (nose), Ami Latu (Tiger), Christian Sam (WILL), Antonio Longino (DEVIL), Salamo Fiso (SAM), Laiu Moeakiola (SPUR), Lloyd Carrington (CB), Kweishi Brown (CB), Jordan Simone (S), and James Johnson (S)
Didn't hear the situation, but suffice to say there was pressure to move the ball and the defense one the battle.
On the first play pressure up the middle (I think it was Christian Sam) forced Bercovici to put one in the dirt. Next play Foster broke open on a sharp cut to the middle of the field, caught the ball in stride and gained about 10 yards, before being wrapped up by Moeakiola.
The quick passing game reared its beautiful head on the third play, as Berco hit Lucien for about 15 yards on a play where Lucien ran right at his defender (probably Carrington), planted, pivoted and caught a perfectly timed ball, while dragging his toes in bounds.
The play was called back because of a false start (sorry for burying the lead), but it's interesting those timing routes that TK and Jalen had so much success with are still part of the offense.
Fourth down (or whatever, it was the last play) Graham called for Hail Mary personnel.
At this point in the drive Jojo Wicker and Armand Perry came into the game on defense, and Gary Chambers, and Ellis Jefferson came in for Kody Kohl and someone else, I think Lucien, on offense.
The play ended up being a convoluted screen that went nowhere.
So it's safe to say we have the opening play against A&M.
