Despite prior reports there is still a football team in Tempe.
Practice started how it always does, with the media waiting outside and a lot of Todd Graham yelling over the voice of god speakers.
Notable green jerseys included Nick Kelly, Evan Goodman and (still) Tim White, who had a small black wrap on instead of a full cast.
Perfect response to our tweet about that.
, Chris if you're on here come on down and take your prize!
Players stretched and then went onto ball security.
On the way over to drills Todd Graham got on both Edmond Boateng and JoJo Wicker for lagging behind.
Running back drills were the same as always, a graduate assistant trying to poke the ball out with a padded stick, while the backs ran through cones. Jacom Brimhall was the only one to fumble, but he made up for it with a nice rep after.
Running back reps seemed to define the pecking order, and it went: Demario Richard, Gump Hayes, Nick Ralston, Jacom Brimhall, Jason Lewis.
Chip Long was the man working with the running backs, I'm assuming it was only for the portion of practice media saw, but who knows.
Receivers looked a little sluggish, going at half speed for most of their drill, but with how hot it was I don't exactly blame them.
First-team offense: Mike Bercovici (QB), Demario Richard (RB), Tim White (WR), Fred Gammage (WR), Ellis Jefferson (WR), Kody Kohl (I think) (TE), Evan Goodman (LT), Christian Westerman (LG), Sam Jones (C), Stephon McCray (RG), and Billy McGehee (RT).
First-team defense: Edmond Boateng (DE), Demetrius Cherry (nose), Ami Latu (Tiger), Christian Sam (WILL), Antonio Longino (DEVIL), Salamo Fiso (SAM), Laiu Moeakiola (SPUR), Lloyd Carrington (CB), Kweishi Brown (CB), Jordan Simone (S), and Armand Perry (S).
Unless they were hurt and not in green, Graham was sending a message to Foster and Gump by not putting them out there.
Tempo opened up with a quick pass to Demario coming out of the backfield, that went for about 13 yards.
Frederick Gammage had two catches in a row for about 20 yards, wonder if gets more reps with the separation issues the receivers had.
Ellis Jefferson had a catch to bring the Devils deep into the red zone, at that point the second teams came in and switched directions.
Second-team offense: Manny Wilkins (QB), Jacom Brimhall (RB), Gary Chambers (WR), Eric Lauderdale (WR), Raymond Epps (TE), Zach Robertson (LT), Scout team member (LG), Scout team member (C), Connor Humphreys (RG), Quinn Bailey (RT)
Didn't see the OL or TE, but I think it's safe to assume it was the same as always.
Second-team defense: JoJo Wicker (DE), Renell Wren (nose), Tashon Smallwood (Tiger), DJ Calhoun (WILL), Chans Cox (SAM), Ismael Murphy-Richardson (DEVIL), Marcus Ball (Spur), Solomon Means (CB), Kareem Orr (CB), James Johnson (S), Chad Adams (S).
Wasn't 100% on Ball or Orr.
First play was a zone read to Brimhall that went for around 15 yards. Lauderdale caught one for eight yards before getting tagged down by Chad Adams.
Gary Chambers snagged a nice ball before getting pushed out by DJ.
Defense finally got a win on the last play with DJ and Chans Cox blitzing both B gaps, and JoJo Wicker amongst other defenders tagging Manny before he could get it off.
