It was Jack Loder (@JackLoder_) reporting on offense and Cole Topham (@HamAnalysis) reporting on defense for Shaun Aguano's first practice as the Arizona State football interim head coach.

The same smooth jazz melody has serenaded the ASU football players during team stretch all season long. So it was a bit jarring on Tuesday when the players got loose to a much different variety of tunes. Travis Scott, Migos and 42 Dugg highlighted the playlist, and the energy naturally brought by those artists clearly translated on the field. The brief viewing period was fast-paced. Not just in tempo, but in literal speed. Guys on both sides of the ball sprinted between drills, and Shaun Aguano usually ran right alongside them. Effort is controllable, it’s clear that new head coach is putting a premium on it.

Attendance
There were no noteworthy new absences observed.

Position Drills
The tight ends and tackles lined up on the offensive side of the field. Coaches Mike Cavanaugh and Juston Wood emphasized “moving together” on the outside of the line. Messiah Swinson and Des Holmes put together crisp reps, both breaking off the ball in unison and double-teaming a would-be defensive end. Isaia Glass was praised by Cavanaugh for his speed and body control as he and Jalin Conyers exploded to the second level to meet linebackers.

Aguano mentioned on Monday that he doesn’t want any position group to feel he is giving preferential treatment to the running backs just because he was their position coach prior to the coaching change. He exemplified that on Tuesday morning, running between position groups during drills and not spending more than a few minutes with any of them. He checked in on his backs, of course, but spent more time with the quarterbacks.

Emory Jones and Paul Tyson simultaneously worked on five and three-step drops before hitting receivers running out routes. Jones delivered nice balls to Andre Johnson and Cam Johnson while Tyson was seen completing a nice pass to Elijhah Badger, who just tapped his toes inside the boundary.

Running backs had a slow day, working on footwork off to the side before rotating into the QB drills and catching swing passes out of the backfield. Xazavian Valladay looked quick and explosive in his reps. Tevin White made a nice grab on a pass that looked like it was sailing high. Daniyel Ngata took handoffs alongside Valladay and also ran clean routes out of the backfield. He provided a momentary spark on Saturday night and could be in for an expanded role under Aguano.

11 on 11
The 11 on 11 period available to media was even shorter than usual on Tuesday given the head coaching switch.

QB Emory Jones
RB Xazavian Valladay/Daniyel Ngata
TE Messiah Swinson
WR Elijhah Badger
WR Andre Johnson
WR Giovanni Sanders
Offensive line from left to right: Isaia Glass, Ladarius Henderson, Ben Scott, Chris Martinez, Des Holmes.

The up-tempo style of practice took on a whole new level during the 11 on 11 period. Emory Jones targeted fullback Case Hatch on a hitch route out of the backfield. The throw was a bit rushed given a strong pass rush, but Hatch still should have pulled it in.

QB Paul Tyson
RB Tevin White/George Hart III
TE Jalin Conyers
WR Chad Johnson Jr.
WR Zeek Freeman
WR Cam Johnson

Paul Tyson has taken over the bulk of second team quarterback reps over Trenton Bourguet. He stood in a clean pocket and found Chad Johnson on a quick out, before handing to a pair of running backs on consecutive plays.
