In the meantime wanted to post the names I've been gathering information about:

Jeff Capel - still the number one candidate for ASU. A loss by Duke tonight in the Sweet 16 could potentially speed up and elevate the dialogue between both parties as soon as this weekend. Otherwise, ASU will be willing to wait until Duke's tournament is over as long as they feel that there is a realistic chance they will land Capel.

Bobby Hurley - if there is anyone that is even close to being as coveted by ASU as Capel is, it's his fellow Duke alumnus. It was a given that that once Hurley took Buffalo to the NCAA Tournament this month that his name will be a hot commodity. Reports are surfacing of both Hurley poised to sign an extension with Buffalo, as well as being courted by DePaul. Too early right now to gauge ASU's chances.

Josh Pastner - I don't know if there is any candidate who wants the ASU job more than Pastner, and that can afford ASU to exhaust other options over the next week or two until they make a move here.

Steve Lavin - much like Pastner, very interested in this ASU job and much like Hurley being mentioned as being extended in his current job. There are also reports that he has been in talks for a network job. So lots of moving parts here, but seemingly not high on ASU's list and when the dust settles down may not even be a viable candidate anymore as it is.

Ed Cooley - the Providence alumnus has done very well with his alma mater winning the Big East championship last year and leading the Friars to two consecutive NCAA tournaments. The fact that as Capel he's part of the Team USA coaching staff (an assistant with the U18 National Team) is an added bonus here as previously discussed the Team USA angle in this search.

Michael White - at age 37 one the youngest candidates ASU is looking at. The Louisiana Tech head coach is 101-40 in just four-year tenure with the Bulldogs. One of the rising stars in the coaching community and someone who's name undoubtedly be attached to other coaching searches.
