The Sun Devils were back inside the bubble on what was seemingly a much more mild morning in Tempe with the weather.
Cam Smith, Grant Martinez, Dillon Faamatau, Sam Jones and Jalen Harvey were all in green. Tim White was also in a green jersey but arrived late to practice. He had a much smaller brace on his arm, a big downgrade from the cast he has had on since Camp T.
A Saints and a Bills scout watched practice alongside Holly Rowe from ESPN. Rowe will be the sideline reporter for the game Saturday in Houston.
11 on 11:
Today the offense was down 2 with a minute left and one timeout with the ball on their own 20-yard line.
First-team offense: Mike Bercovici (QB), Demario Richard (RB), D.J. Foster (WR), Devin Lucien (WR), Gump Hayes (WR), Kody Kohl (TE), Evan Goodman (LT), Christian Westerman (LG), Nick Kelly (C), Stephon McCray (RG), and Billy McGehee (RT).
First-team defense: Edmond Boateng (DE), Demetrius Cherry (nose), Ami Latu (Tiger), Christian Sam (WILL), Antonio Longino (DEVIL), Salamo Fiso (SAM), Laiu Moeakiola (SPUR), Lloyd Carrington (CB), Kweishi Brown (CB), Jordan Simone (S), and Armand Perry (S).
Bercovici had plenty of time to throw throughout the drive and never looked uncomfortable sitting in the pocket. He completed a pass to Devin Lucien on an out where Lucien was able to keep both feet in and then fall out of bounds. He also hit D.J. Foster on a crossing route before the drive stalled.
Bercovici had a pass tipped at the line (Believe Demetrius Cherry got a hand on it) but was still completed to Gump Hayes for a few yards. Another pass fell incomplete to Foster and then he overthrew Hayes on the next down trying to go deep. The final play of the period was a sack by Edmond Boateng who had a nice swim move to take the edge.
Defense certainly won the period but I wouldn't call it a bad series for Bercovici. He never put the ball in any danger of a turnover and made smart throws, a few just lacked the necessary accuracy.
