It was Jack Loder (@JackLoder_) who observed the offense and Cole Topham (@HamAnalysis) who observed the defense during Wednesday's session.

Offense

The offense has begun to feel the effects of a normal season’s wear and tear after enjoying a clean bill of health for most of the first half of the season. Now at the halfway point, depth is being tested at some positions.

Attendance

Quarterback Emory Jones was present and fully dressed for practice, but did not participate in 11 on 11 and was mostly observed off to the side during quarterback drills. He made his way off the field and into the bubble just before we left.

After missing practice all of last week and subsequently missing the game against Washington, right tackle Des Holmes was back at practice and in pads on Wednesday, though he was sporting a green non-contact jersey and only participated lightly in the offensive line drills. He did not take part in the 11 on 11 period.

Offensive guard Ladarius Henderson was present in the beginning of practice, but was not in pads. He left practice about halfway through the portion that was available to media.

WR Zeek Freeman was present but was not in pads. He continues to deal with a turf toe injury that sidelined him on Saturday.

11 on 11

First Team

QB Trenton Bourguet
RB Xazavian Valladay/Daniyel Ngata
FB Case Hatch
WR Elijhah Badger
WR Bryan Thompson
TE Messiah Swinson
Offensive line from left to right: Isaia Glass, Chris Martinez, Ben Scott, Ben Bray, Emmit Bohle

Trenton Bourguet was the first team quarterback during the viewing period. He took four snaps, finding success on out routes to Elijhah Badger, and on an inside curl route to Messiah Swinson on the first two. Bourguet threw a nice ball to Badger who freed himself by beating Ro Torrence off the line of scrimmage. Badger made the catch inside the five-yard line but was wrapped up before he could get into the end zone. Swinson made a nice move to get open in the middle of the field before Bourguet fired a strike into his chest just outside the goal line. Bourguet showed great composure in a collapsing pocket, stepping up to avoid the rush before hitting Swinson.

Second Team
QB Paul Tyson
RB Tevin White/George Hart
WR Giovanni Sanders
WR Andre Johnson
WR Cam Johnson
WR Chad Johnson Jr.
TE Jalin Conyers
Offensive line left to right: Ralph Frias, Thomas LeBoucher, Danny Valenzuela, Kolbe Stuckwisch, Emmit Bohle.

Tyson did his best Emory Jones impression on his final snap. He escaped the pocket and made a couple of nifty moves to evade linebackers before spinning into the end zone as the whistle blew. Tyson threw low to Charles Hall a yard deep in the end zone, but Hall bailed him out with a diving catch in traffic. Hall and Tyson were lucky there was no video review available.

Tyson handed off twice to Tevin White. White didn’t find much space on either of his runs despite making some nice cuts in the backfield. Coach Aguano could be seen running sideline to sideline behind the play like he himself was a linebacker, barking orders and making sure the tempo he has installed is being followed closely.

Position Drills

Offensive linemen and tight ends paired up to do routine blocking work. With a number of new faces getting first and second team run on the line, coach Cavanaugh was especially verbal during these periods. Center Ben Scott and guard Chris Martinez worked on double teams, with Martinez working as left guard in the absence of Henderson.

Trenton Bourguet and Paul Tyson worked simultaneously on opposite hash marks, throwing out routes and deep balls to receivers. Bourguet hit Badger and Sanders in stride on deep post routes, while Tyson was able to find Chad Johnson on a nice crossing route.
