Mornin Mates...
Today's Topic = The Plank Watch
I'll be heading up to Tempe later today and I'm looking forward to the game against Cal Poly tonight, since this will be the first time the phase one stadium construction will be on display before a game and the first time a "double inferno" will be unveiled, although I'm still a little confused about the North End Zone section and the role it will play in the "double inferno" this season...
Does the South End Zone have to fill up first or are an equal amount of student tickets available for each section, with each student deciding where they want to sit or am I entirely off base because, maybe, that isn't going to happen yet...anyway, that's one of the things I'm looking forward to seeing tonight...also wondering how many fans and students will show up tonight since we laid an egg of sorts against A&M last weekend...
Plank Watch...I have these coaches, not merely on the proverbial hot seat this weekend, after their units embarrassed us last weekend against the Aggies, but have them ready to start walking the plank if things don't start improving dramatically starting tonight...
Mike Norvell...sure, K Ballage was sent home with Mono shortly before the game but did that really make that much of a difference in the scope of offensive things..?? Also, sure, the Aggies had a new defensive coordinator from LSU and yes we had a couple of new tackles trying to block NFL talent at both defensive end positions for A&M but c'mon...is that the best we could do on the big stage in Houston after all that preseason build up..??
Chris Thomsen...the Aggies defensive line stole our lunch money during the game whenever they wanted to and, even though we had new tackles, we also had veterans at center and both guard positions and they were getting worked over regularly as well...is our OL really that bad or is the coaching of it suspect..??
Chip Long and DelVaughn Alexander...we're in year four of "speaking victory" and our receivers couldn't get open against the Aggies on those few occasions Berco was still upright in the pocket and our TE position is still understaffed, so what gives with both of you guys..??
Shawn Slocum...so, you used to coach in the pros...our special teams last Saturday looked pathetic as A&M almost blocked every one of our punts and they did return one for about 80 yds that really was a huge deflator for the team...maybe there was a reason you were unemployed when we came calling..??
Todd Graham...coach I still love you but you shouldn't keep pumping the sunshine unless you are entirely certain that it is warranted...best team you've had at ASU..?? We'll see..??
On the Other Side of Things...I'm not big on handing out game balls but the defensive coaching staff did a pretty outstanding job of keeping us in the ball game and we actually had a chance to win until the very end thanks to you guys...
The Herd...I was listening to C Cowherd this week on his new Fox Sports show and he had Fox college football analyst, Clay Travis, saying such things as Josh Rosen was the best true freshman QB he's seen at the college level since the year 2000, and that both USC and UCLA would fight it out for the PAC title since they had the best talent in the conference...Cowherd now lives in LA having moved from ESPN and the east coast...
Whataburger...USC true freshman, highly rated RB, Ronald Jones, who Cowherd said would end up being great for the Trojans, said he was going through Whataburger and BBQ withdrawal in LA as he missed all that good food from Texas...probably not a lot of BBQ in LA but there are probably lots of different type salads to choose from there...put smiley face here...
I'm not going to miss my IN-N-OUT burger stop in Casa Grande on the way to ASU for the game...
I have no idea what time I will get home tomorrow so thought I'd put together this piece today but I expect to be raving about our Devils and, if I'm not, then some coaches are going to be walking the plank...
Enjoy the game...
G'day Mates...Championships or Bust...Go Devils!!!
