I'm doing some research for an article that'll be posted in the new few days and noticed a strange trend.
Under Todd Graham, ASU has signed 12 two-star (or unrated) recruits according to Rivals rankings.
Four of those two-stars were JUCO transfers (William McGehee, Darwin Rogers, De'Marieya Nelson, Solomon Means).
Of the seven true freshmen two-stars/unrated players from 2012-14, five played as true freshmen: Easton Wahlstrom in 2012, Matt Haack and Zane Gonzalez in 2013 and Brendan Landman and Emanuel Dayries in 2014. Terrell Davis and Kody Kohl redshirted in 2012, so every two-star/unrated high school signee of the past two classes played as true freshman.
I throw the term "unrated" in there because - believe it or not - Zane Gonzalez was not assigned a star rating by Rivals.
ASU signed only one two-star prospect in the entire 2015 class, and he is another one who stands a legitimate chance at playing as a true freshman - Nick Ralston.
Additionally, ASU has decreased the amount of two-stars signed each year under Graham, starting with five in 2012, four in 2013, two in 2014 and one in 2015. It makes sense, however, due to the fact that 1/4 of the two-star/unrated prospects are special teams players (Wahlstrom, Gonzalez, Haack) who are more likely to not have a three-star or higher rating.
