Today's Topic = My Transfer Portal Ratings
As of today, we have a total of eight transfers through the portal that are on scholarship and on campus at ASU...
This is how I rate them in terms of overall importance and potential impact for the Sun Devil roster moving forward...
1) Paul Tyson - QB - 6'5" 230 - from Alabama who was backup to five star Bryce Young...
Rated a 4 star in HS and chose Bama over offers from just about every major college including just about every other team in the SEC...
Great grandson of legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant...
Has three years of eligibility at this all important position so can probably backup, while pushing JD this year, and then contend for starting job in 2023...
2) Rodney Groce Jr - LB - 6' 2" 240 - from Mississippi State who played in four games this past season...was listed in preseason as second team MLB for Bulldogs...
Rated 3 star in HS and had 27 offers from major colleges including just about every team in SEC but chose MSU...
Has four years of eligibility along with physical tools to be a starting LB for Sun Devils at some point in not too distant future...
3) Nesta Jade Silvera - DL/NT - 6'2" 308 - from Miami Hurricanes who was considered a pro prospect and possible All-ACC candidate while at Miami...
Rated 4 stars in HS and pursued by every major college including all teams in SEC, etc...
Started 18 games in his junior and senior years at Miami but under-achieved somewhat during his senior season, due to some missed games, due to illnesses (not Covid) and injuries...
Has one year of eligibility and could be a fairly high draft pick next year if he becomes a dominant NT with Sun Devils...
4) Xazavian Valladay - RB - 6'0" 198 - starring RB from Wyoming who was All-MWC his junior and senior seasons with Cowboys...
Rated 2 stars out of HS and choose Wyoming over Western Illinois
Has one year of eligibility and figures to give ASU some much needed quality depth at RB...doesn't have blazing speed like Rachaad White but very tough, explosive type runner...
5) Chris Martinez - OL - 6'4" 310 - started all games for San Diego St at LG this past season...Aztec OL rated tops in MWC, where CM earned All-Conference Honorable Mention by Pro Sports Network...
Rated composite 3 stars out of HS and lightly recruited and chose SDSU over three other lower tier schools...
Has one year of eligibility and given his development at San Diego St, that fared well against PAC opponents, beating both AU and Utah, and was 12-2 overall, figures to contend for a starting OL position for Sun Devils...
6) Messiah Swinson - TE - 6'7" 255 - from Mizzou where he played in ten games in both his junior and senior years with Tigers and caught a total of seven passes during that time...
Rated 3 stars out of HS and recruited by over a dozen schools that included ASU, BC, Nebraska, NC State, Wake Forest and W Virginia...
Has two years of eligibility and figures to contend for playing time with Sun Devils this next season...
7) Des Holmes - OL - 6'5" 325 - from Penn St where he was a backup tackle for Nittany Lions in 32 games over his career there...
Rated 3 stars out of HS and pursued by about 20 major colleges, mostly from Big-10...
Has one year of eligibility and could improve his pro draft potential if he can become a starting tackle for Sun Devils...some unkind PSU fans gave him the nickname of "Turnstile"...
8) Emmit Bohle - OL - 6'7" 300 - played four seasons at Div 2 Northern State U in Aberdeen, SD where he dominated during the two full seasons in which he played offensive tackle (one season was canceled due to Covid)...
Not rated out of HS so went to nearby NSU where he was on scholarship...started out as a TE but grew a lot to become a starting OL tackle at NSU...
Has two years of eligibility and is an intriguing prospect who fits the "diamond in the rough" or "our kind of guy" category...
As noted, all of these players are in Tempe and on campus ready to compete for their respective positions this Spring...
I'll be interested, as always, in your feedback, especially related to how you would rank them in terms of potential value to the Sun Devils roster...
