Conference play starts this weekend for our Sun Devils as they travel to Corvallis to take on the Mighty Beavers. Some might say Oregon State is traveling to Corvallis as well with 10 of their 13 games so far having been played on neutral or visiting fields.

It remains to be seen just how mighty this OSU squad is but the early indications and rankings place them anywhere from #3 to #5 in the nation. So if you were looking for a “test” I’d say playing a top 5 team on the road counts.

But, enough about Oregon State, let’s talk about the Sun Devils. The fan turnout this weekend was a clear show of support and I couldn’t be more impressed with our fans. Sun Devil Baseball is at its best when 6,500 people show up in force for a Friday night and the Devils rose to the occasion. Gutsy pitching and hitting gave the fans a lot to like.

Despite the slow start for ASU the team has to feel like they are better than their record indicates. ASU has 3 legitimate weekend starters (even if not dominant) as well as a lineup as explosive as any in the PAC-12. The Grand Slams that we’ve seen this year are an indication that guys throughout the lineup are getting on base and forcing a pitcher to attack the middle of the zone with one of our many power bats up. That’s a great recipe for success.

Go Devils!
