Hey guys,
ASU ran through another bowl practice on a crisp Friday morning in Tempe. Once again, the Sun Devils were in shells. Nothing too dramatic or intense happened, it was just pretty standard. There don't appear to be any bad injuries as QB Brady White remains the only player in a green non-contact jersey. Nick Ralston was on the stationary bike for a bit, too.
So, let's hit the most important part first — the teams.
The depth chart appears relatively similar. No major changes.
FIRST TEAM OFFENSE: QB Manny Wilkins, RB Demario Richard, WRs N'Keal Harry/Kyle Williams/Jalen Harvey, TE Ceejhay French-Love, LT Cohl Cabral, LG Sam Jones, C A.J. McCollum, RG Steven Miller, RT Quinn Bailey
SECOND TEAM OFFENSE: QB Blake Barnett, RB Eno Benjamin, WRs Curtis Hodges/John Humphrey/Ryan Newsome, TE Tommy Hudson, LT Tyson Rising, LG Cade Cote, C Marshal Nathe, RG Alex Losoya, RT Mason Walter
Note: Humphrey wore No. 2 today.
FIRST TEAM DEFENSE:
DL: Tashon Smallwood, Renell Wren, A.J. Latu
LB: Jay Jay Wilson, DJ Calhoun, Deion Guignard,
SPUR: J'Marcus Rhodes
DB: CB Chase Lucas, CB Kpbe Williams, S Demonte King, S Chad Adams
SECOND TEAM DEFENSE:
DL: Jalen Bates, Shannon Forman, Jordan Hoyt
LB: Abe Thompson, Khaylan Thomas, Malik Lawal
SPUR: Tyler Whiley
DB: CB Darien Cornay, CB Alex Perry, S Langston Frederick, S Evan Fields
Now let's talk a bit about the WR/DB drill. The receivers ran a number of routes while the defensive backs covered them. A couple big moments:
-Frank Darby. I would leave it at that because you know what's coming. Yes, he claimed another victim. This time, he took one away from Chase Lucas. Lucas was jokingly upset. It seems the guys who get a ball caught over them by Darby react the same way — they're somewhat upset, but jokingly because he's probably done this all season.
-N'Keal Harry caught one over Darien Cornay. That's an obvious size mismatch, but Cornay didn't play the ball well at all. He hardly had a play on it, but it was because he got himself in a bad position where Harry was able to block him out on the deep route. If you remember from last week, Darby caught one over Cornay when Cornay was in good position.
FUNNY MOMENT OF THE DAY: During the tempo session, the second team offense was up against the second team defense. Barnett set up with Benjamin right next to him.
Then I hear a voice from the defense:
"Eno, you're a midget!"
Not sure who it was, but it was hilarious.
Jack Harris was also out at practice. He has some notes from the newcomers:
