Hey guys, so, for starters, I got the date right for this thread. That's a great start. Now, let's get to the good stuff.

LOCATION: Kajikawa Practice Fields

MEDIA VIEWING: About 20 minutes

STRETCH MUSIC: Jump Around x House of Pain, Champion x Kanye West

IN GREEN: QB Brady White, DL Jalen Bates, WR Ryan Jenkins, TE Tommy Hudson, DB Demonte King, DL Jordan Hoyt

LIMITED: The following players appeared limited during the media viewing session:

DB Evan Fields, K Cristian Zendejas (just realized I put O'Brien on practice report yesterday. I was thinking kickers and mis-typed, so my bad), WR Jeremy Smith, LB Deion Guignard, Spur Marcus Ball

SCOUT TEAM: The scout team debuted yesterday. Notables who weren't on it were guys like WR Frank Darby and freshman RB Trelon Smith. I compiled a short list of guys yesterday who were scout team, but today, I tried to add to it, just by process of elimination.

Graham said evaluation is ongoing and the scout team could be fluid, but here are a few guys I had on there today (they were on yesterday, but I double-checked today):

DB Alex Perry and DB K.J. Jarrell are two notable freshmen who are on the scout team. Yesterday, Graham said Perry did some nice things. Evaluation continues, so we'll keep tabs and see if there's an update. If you're curious about some others on scout team, you can refer to yesterday's practice report for those.

BALL SECURITY: There wasn't much to glean from this period today. The offense practiced tackling and the defensive linemen practiced falling on the ball. For what it's worth, it seemed Coach Rob Sale (working with DL for this period) liked the reps he saw.

TEMPO/TEAM: ASU ran tempo and 11-on-11 team today. Both periods in the media viewing session aren't long, but I charted the teams and I'll try to give a couple brief highlights.

First team offense: QB Manny Wilkins, RBs Demario Richard/Kalen Ballage, WRs N'Keal Harry/John Humphrey/Jalen Harvey, LT Cohl Cabral, LG Sam Jones, C A.J. McCollum, RG Steven Miller, RT Quinn Bailey

Note: No TE due to personnel grouping. Eno Benjamin took some first-team reps during the team session.

Second team offense: QB Blake Barnett, RB Eno Benjamin/Trelon Smith (both received reps), WRs Frank Darby/Curtis Hodges/Kyle Williams, TE Jay Jay Wilson, LT Mason Walter, LG Cade Cote, C Tyler McClure, RG Alex Losoya, RT Zach Robertson

Note: Didn't see Ryan Newsome today, but wouldn't read too much into it. The staff is perhaps just giving Hodges a shot to see what he can do. Plus, Newsome was limping after practice yesterday, but played it off as nothing serious.

First team defense:

D-Line: JoJo Wicker, Tashon Smallwood, A.J. Latu

LB: Koron Crump, Christian Sam, D.J. Calhoun

SPUR: J'Marcus Rhodes

DB: CB Joey Bryant, Kobe Williams, S Chad Adams, S Das Tautalatasi

Second team defense:

D-Line: Renell Wren, Doug Subtyl, Shannon Forman

LB: Abraham Thompson, Khaylan Thomas, Malik Lawal

SPUR: Tyler Whiley

DB: CB Maurice Chandler, CB Darien Cornay, S Ty Thomas, S Langston Frederick

Note: I heard Chandler received some reps yesterday, but I didn't see because they escorted media out right as the second team took the field. He was there today, though. Maybe healthy, perhaps making an impression. Who knows. I'll ask Bennett.

So, there weren't many big plays in the team session, but here are a couple:

-Manny Wilkins rolled right and threw to Kalen Ballage, who was streaking down the right sideline. It was an "explosive play," per Graham. Wilkins and Ballage have connected on wheel routes all fall, and this looked to be another.

-Blake Barnett hit Jay Jay Wilson over the middle today and he ran for an "explosive play." Wilson has looked good all fall to me and this was another case.

Other observations:

-ASU ran a few wide receiver screens. The offense usually does during media viewing, mainly because they're simple. But we could see a lot of WR screens to Humphrey, Harry and Newsome this year. Something to watch for as gameday approaches.

PERSONNEL NOTES: For those wondering what happened to Chase Lucas, I'm not sure. I will try to ask today. I did see him during a special teams period. RB Nick Ralston, who has been limited lately, also seemed to be participating in practice. I saw him during the same special teams period, but I'm not sure how much he participated because he didn't receive any team reps.

That's it for today's practice report. As always, feel free to ask questions.

I'm also trying to do the next mailbag this week, so post your questions for that below, too.
