Among the myriad new rules in college football recruiting (including, but NOWHERE NEAR all-inclusive) are the new earlier dates for official visits, & the unlimited amount of official visits allowed for both the hosting schools and the recruits themselves.
They are creating earlier and earlier public "commitments" from preps (that used to be exclusive to a handful of bluebloods led by Texas and later became more common with QBs across the country and now for any school and any position
and ASU is leading the way in the Big 12 with more April official visits than any other team by a lot
what the result will be remains to be seen (as it will be the first visit rather than the last for many and the term "commitment" is nearly comical anyway) but it is a good strategy with the June weather issue (and obviously ASU's championship season should help significantly)
another thing that is apparent is that the Big 12 is not getting ANYWHERE CLOSE to the number of 4-star recruits to visit as compared to the 3 other P4s
just like bluebloods getting first shot at nearly all 4-5 star recruits, the SEC, B1G, ACC (in that order as an overall conference) get 1st 2nd and 3rd shot at the top recruits
currently only 53 total 4 star recruits (zero 5-star) have scheduled official visits to the 16 Big 12 teams (and some of those 53 are counted 2-3 times while visiting multiple Big 12 teams like QB Oscar Rio who is scheduled to take official visits to 4 Big 12 teams....so he alone takes that down to 50 4-star recruits officially tripping to the Big 12)
ASU-10
Baylor-9
Colorado-8
Utah-5
Houston-4
TCU-3
Oklahoma State-3
Kansas-3
Kansas State-2
Texas Tech-2
u4-2
BYU-2
Cincy-0
UCF-0
West Virginia-0
Iowa State-0
As a comparison, just the 3 bluebloods in the #3 P4 conference, the ACC, have 64 4/5 star recruiting visits lined up currently ......let alone the other 14 teams in the conference
