Bringing in Deana Garner Smith, previously of the NCAA and NFL, to serve as senior associate athletic director and senior women's administrator is interesting for a couple of reasons. 1) ASU is dipping into the ex-NFL employee pool for the 5th or 6th time, not including the hires that have been made within the confines of the football program, and 2) her background is in the education and prevention of some of the things that go on in the sports world's darker side- drugs, drink, off the field violence and gambling.

Smith has more experience with Davon Durant's situation than perhaps any administrator in the country, as 2014 in the NFL was a banner year for that stuff.

Does anyone in here think her presence could impact Durant's status, whether from a rehabilitation, or even a zero tolerance standpoint? Obviously an extremely complicated legal process has to play out first, but I'm wondering if Smith will in any way be involved from here on out...
