Some of the big news down here in Tucson these days isn't about the Cats making another Sweet 16 appearance but, rather, whether the Cats ladies BB coach will be around much longer...

Apparently, Adia Barnes (48) who just finished her ninth season at AU has only one year left on her contract, kind of like Bobby Hurley, but her record is pretty solid compared to Bobby's after 10 years at ASU...

In the last five seasons, Barnes has winning records that have taken the Cats to four NCAA tournaments while Bobby, during the past five seasons, has four losing seasons and no March Madness appearances...

Barnes only two losing seasons at AU came in her first two years there and her 2020-21 team made in to the national title game against Stanford (Stanford won) while Bobby has never made it to the round of 32, if I'm not mistaken...

It doesn't appear that the new AU AD will be extending her contract but maybe she will end up doing so, while Bobby will get a retention bonus of $600K this next season whether Rossini extends his contract or not...

Hopefully, our new AD is establishing a different sort of administrative culture at ASU, where winning at a championship level is the standard in every sport and not just a nebulous or hazy aspiration...

So, based on Barnes record to date, would you extend her or not..?? (BTW, she makes a little over $1M a year at AU)

I'd ask the same for Bobby but doubt anyone on this site would vote for a contract extension given his record to date...

It will be interesting to see how both athletic administrations handle the contracts of Adia vs Bobby moving forward...

In the meantime, I'm glad that Sun Devil spring football is now underway...Go Devils!!!
