PASADENA, Calif. -- Former Arizona State offensive lineman Randall McDaniel will be inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2018. McDaniel will join Pop Warner, Vince Young and George Halas being honored at the Rose Bowl Kickoff Luncheon in Pasadena on December 31, 2018.

McDaniel will be the third Sun Devil to be inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame after teammate and quarterback Jeff Van Raaphorst and head coach John Cooper, who coached the team that included both McDaniel and Van Raaphorst to 1987 Rose Bowl Title.

McDaniel, from nearby Avondale, Ariz., was a four-year starter along the offensive line in Tempe and helped lead ASU to the 1987 Rose Bowl Title, defeating Michigan 22-15. The following year, he was awarded the 1987 Morris Trophy for Pac-10 offensive lineman of the year. He was also a two-time first-team all-American in 1986 and 1987.

McDaniel was drafted 19th overall by the Minnesota Vikings in the 1988 NFL Draft, and went on to have a stellar NFL career. McDaniel's career stretched from 1988-2001, and saw him start 220 of his 222 career games, including starting every game from 1990-2001, the fourth longest streak ever for an offensive lineman at the time of his retirement. He played his first 12 seasons with the Vikings, before heading to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the final two seasons of his career.

McDaniel was selected to 12 Pro Bowls, 11 with the Vikings and one more with Tampa Bay. His 11 selections with the Vikings are the most in franchise history, and his 12 overall are the second most ever for an offensive lineman. McDaniel blocked for six 1,000 yard rushers and five 3,000 yard passers during his career. In 2016, Fox Sports ranked him the tenth best NFL offensive lineman of all time.

There are many other accolades that McDaniel has to his name, at both the collegiate and professional level. He is a member of the ASU Hall of Fame, the National Football Foundation College Hall of Fame and the Pac-12 All-Century Team. Professionally, he is also an eight time AP all-pro selection, two-time NFL Man of the Year (1986 and 1987), named to the NFL's Team of the Decade (1990s) and the Minnesota Vikings Ring of Honor, and most notably, was enshrined in Canton as a member of the NFL Hall of Fame Class of 2009.

McDaniel also left an impact off the field and in the community as big as he did on the field. Even during his playing days, he spent his offseasons as a teaching assistant for an elementary school in Robbinsdale, Minn. Following his career, he earned his teaching certificate and was first a substitute teacher, and in 2006, became a full-time elementary teacher in Robbinsdale, where he continues to teach today.

McDaniel is engaged in many philanthropic endeavors all over the world. Naturally, he is an ambassador for the CFP Foundation's Extra Yard for Teachers campaign, working to bring awareness to the role that teachers play in the success of their students. He also helps the Taste of the NFL working to end hunger in America, is an ambassador for the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance, supports Open Arms for Children to support children that have been orphaned due to the AIDS epidemic in South Africa and is a regular attendee at Snowball Express' annual meeting, a group helping children of fallen soldiers, among many more charitable causes.

He also pledged a donation of $10,000 for 10 years to the Jane Watson Cunningham Scholarship to support students at Ohio University's Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

In addition to the support he gives other causes, he has also founded some of his own programs. Team McDaniel is a middle school program designed to promote the value of community service. He also founded Mr. McDaniel's Classroom, a program that provides children with sickle cell anemia the opportunity to work one-on-one with a volunteer tutor to "catch-up" on school work missed due to frequent hospitalizations.

The Rose Bowl Hall of Fame was established in 1989 to honor members of the Rose Bowl family who have contributed to the history and excitement of the Rose Bowl Game, and those who embody the best of the passion, honor, strength and tradition associated with The Granddaddy of Them All.
