The 6-2 280-pound Diaz tweeted out yesterday that he has committed to Arizona State
After talking to a couple of sources on the matter, here's the deal:
Diaz, for now, is walking onto to the team and scheduled to be in fall camp next week. The lack of depth on the interior of the defensive line is compelling the ASU coaches to take a look at him and audition him, if you will, throughout camp.
If he does perform well and does academically qualify and get admitted to ASU, he will be a blueshirt recruit, which means that he plays this year but counts towards the scholarship allotment of the 2018 class. In order to count towards the next year's allotment of scholarships, blueshirts are players who were not recruited in terms of being here for an official visit, given an NLI to sign, etc., they begin as walk-ons and are not brought on scholarship until after the first day of fall camp.
So just a name to keep in mind here as ASU begins camp next week.
