Per Jon Wilner in his sports article today in the Daily Star titled "West teams have March to forget"...

The PAC only had three "meager bids" on selection Sunday and then 7th Seed USC lost in the first round, Arizona went down without much fight in the Sweet 16, and 4th Seed UCLA ran aground against North Carolina...

"Three teams in the field, three losses to lower seeds and no teams to the Elite 8"...

On the plus side, the PAC collected seven units (based on how each team did during the tournament) for its efforts in the tournament, which means that every PAC team will get equal shares of $14M over a span of six years...

That doesn't add up to a whole lot of money but its better than nothing at all, especially for all of the PAC teams, like ASU, that didn't contribute anything to the tournament to begin with...

Was the PAC really a pretty lousy conference this year..??

Wilner theorizes that guards, especially point guards, are the most important players on the court during March Madness because they create baskets for themselves, break down set defenses, and get to the foul line when all else fails...

He also talks about the importance of toughness and how teams like Houston and Arkansas were tougher than Arizona and Gonzaga which makes him wonder if players from the West Coast are tough enough when it comes to the Big Dance...

However, he acknowledges that both UCLA and Gonzaga were in the Final Four last year...

Charles Barkley's theory is that when the stars are aligned correctly good things happen to talented teams...

What do you think he means about the stars needing to be aligned correctly..??

Isn't it still all about the elite talent that traditional blue-bloods of college basketball have on their rosters and why Duke, North Carolina, Villanova and Kansas are in the Final Four..??

It's really helpful if your have a guard like Aari McDonald, who took the lady Cats to the championship game last season, as she positioned the stars correctly almost by herself...

There's that talent thing again, right..??

And, it sure didn't hurt Kansas this year to have Remy on their roster who played a key role in their advancement to the Final Four...

He just added to an already packed elite roster, right..??

But, they are guards, so are guards more important than the other positions on the court, especially come tournament time..??

Maybe Bobby is on to something with this Guard U thing...

What do you think..??

Go Devils!!!
