If you've tried to find video of ASU's newest commit, you'll notice there is limited footage of De'Quon Lake online. As a result, it's hard to ascertain what type of player ASU is getting...unless you've seen him play in person.
So I reached out to Brendan Walker, who is the National Director of JUCO Scouting & Recruiting for Elite Basketball Services. He's seen the 6-10 post player numerous times over the last two years and believes ASU is getting a solid player.
Here's what Walker had to say about Lake and his potential:
What kind of player is Arizona State getting?
"Arizona State is getting one of the best big's in all of Junior College. There isn't any other big that has the combination of size and athleticism like Lake."
What are some of his strengths?
"He gets off the floor quickly, very powerful and takes up space. Has good touch with his right-hand jump hook. Can be really good defender when he wants to be -- blocking shots and rebounding."
What are some areas he needs to improve in?
"He needs to continue to improve his offense and consistently play hard. His only question is (his) motor and how hard he plays. I've seen him be great, and other times, just okay. If he continues to improve and want to get better, he can be an immediate impact [player] for Arizona State and a presence in the paint."
Is he a legitimate Pac-12 caliber player? And what is his long-term potential?
"Yeah, he's definitely good enough to play at that level. He is a legit prospect, he is the best true big left in JUCO. There is no other big with his size and lift off the floor. He could be a potential double-double guy in his senior year and consistent low-post threat."
