OK, so here is the story I got from a very trusted ASU source:

ASU recruited Hunter Mayginnes in earnest even after Graham was fired and after Napier and Sale left. So coaching changes didn’t alter the recruiting process at all here.

ASU very much wanted for Mayginnes to sign during the early signing period and pursued him as such.

At 8:22 pm on December 23rd, with just over 3.5 hours left in the early signing period ASU and Mayginnes talked on the phone. Again, ASU expressed their desire to have Mayginnes sign with the school just like all the other 11 ASU commits did.

On that night Mayginnes indicated to ASU that he will sign his Letter of Intent with the school and will call ASU back that night.

Obviously, Mayginnes didn’t follow up on either of his statements.

Still, ASU kept on recruiting Mayginnes after the early signing period was over.

When ASU learned that Mayginnes was going to visit UCLA, they made it clear to him that they will treat him just like they treat any commit taking visits to other schools – and that is recruit players at his position.
ASU feels good about their chances with Casey Tucker, and won’t take more than three linemen anyway in this class. With Ralph Frias in the fold and with other prospects in the wings ASU deems better than Mayginnes, ASU decided to part ways and have limited number of scholarships is another reason.

Again, what happened the night of the 23rd certainly didn’t endear Mayginnes to ASU to begin with, and the UCLA visit just made matters worse. You feel bad for Mayginnes and his camp though that were seemingly deceived by UCLA and the official visit to Westwood thinking this would lead an offer.

I’m told that ASU is happy to try and find a school for Mayginnes. Found out tonight that Scottsdale Saguaro’s Josiah Bradley is a player ASU backed off from but still helped find a home at Nevada where former ASU assistant, Jay Norvell, is the head coach.

So that is the story from the ASU perspective.
