I'm not sure this has been mentioned much today, but there is a HUGE difference between this hire and the previous three.
Each of our past three hires, the head coach was taking over a dumpster fire. That is not the case here by any means.
Frieder took over after the Steve Patterson disaster and had nothing to work with to start his tenure.
Rob Evans had even less to work with and he was coming off of the Rico Harris/Tommy Prince prop-48 and point shaving mess left by Frieder.
Sendek had little to work with too after Evans got the program back to respectability and no talent to work with.
The next head coach will have a solid nucleus of players and athletes with a couple of pretty good recruits coming in next year and by all accounts were expected to make it to the NCAA tournament even with Sendek. This of course assumes they all stay and we don't lose any of the recruits. But our current situation is going to be a lot more appealing to more quality candidates than we've had in the past.
