Per Jon Wilner in his latest PAC Hotline column...

He is looking at teams from the quality lost vs quality gained through the transfer portal...

1) USC - Trojans lost 26 players, most of whom were not judged to be significant, but gained many more impact players (well over a dozen) than they lost, including ASU transfer Eric Gentry...

2) Oregon - Ducks lost some talent like RB Travis Dye to USC but gained a talented DL from the Huskies, a talented DB from the Buffs and a well known QB from Auburn...

3) Arizona - he thinks the Cats have gained much more than they have lost through the portal that include two quality additions in QB Jayden de Laura and WR Jacob Cowing from UTEP...

4) Cal - picked up a gifted QB in Jack Plummer from Purdue and a couple of other touted transfers from UCLA and Wash...

5) Wazzu - picked up a gifted QB in Cam Ward and gifted WR from Oregon St in Zeriah Beason...

6) Wash - he feels Huskies kind of broke even in terms of losses vs gains but if QB Michael Penix from Indiana works out the Huskies will be ahead of the game...

7) Utah - Utes have lost 13 to portal, none of whom was considered significant and only gained five, two of whom could be big additions in LBs from Stanford and Florida...

8) UCLA - lost a lot on defense but not much on offense...

9) Oregon St - its been pretty quiet in Corvallis as the Beavers didn't have a lot of scholarship spots to give out to potential transfers...

10) Stanford - admission standards have thwarted Cardinal abilities to attract talent through portal so we'll see...

11) ASU - he feels that the Devils lost a lot more quality talent than they gained through the portal but we'll see moving forward...

12) Colorado - like Devils the Buffs lost a lot more than they gained...

We can quibble a lot with the way he breaks down the quality transfers gained vs lost but I think it is pretty clear that the Sun Devils have lost more than they have gained but time will tell...

What real difference would it make if he ranked us 7th or 8th vs 11th..??

Even more troubling for me is that the Cats now have a dozen HS commitments, mostly three star players, compared to our one player for this recruiting cycle thus far...

I wonder how Las Vegas would rank these teams but we know that they put our over-under in terms of wins at 5.5...

Thankfully, we will play at least 12 games this season so Herm and his staff can prove all the doubters wrong by winning a lot of games...

Go Devils!!!
