The Devils continue to do what I call the Sendek Shuffle which is a version of the Cha-Cha for those of you that know what that is...I've never been a big fan of the Cha-Cha myself but that may be due to not being a very refined dance partner on the ballroom floor...as a matter of fact, I've been known to have done the Cha-Cha when a Waltz is playing, which has amused any number of dance partners over the years...
I dare say that watching me on the dance floor would be the equivalent of watching our Sun Devil BB team play basketball under Herb just about every season...you could pay me a million bucks to improve my dancing but it would only get marginally better, if that, after that kind of investment...however, with enough "strategic patience" by my wife she would undoubtedly hang in there a few more years and not get rid of me for being a crappy dancer, as I have enough other virtues in place...
Not that Herb is a crappy dancer but he doesn't really remind anybody of say Fred Astaire, either, does he..??
I only bring this all up because Herb is going to get another couple of years with which to "rebuild" the program, to what exactly, I do not pretend to know...I do know that it frustrates me to no end to have to practice "strategic patience" especially since patience has never been one of my strong points...
We now sit at 15-14 and 7-9 and would appear to be on the NIT bubble but I have no idea whether that is true of not...the good news is that we have beaten AU again this year and are exceeding pre-season media expectations that saw us finishing 9th in the PAC...we're currently sitting 7th in the conference and finish our season next weekend against Stanford and Cal...
However, the bad news, as we all know, is that our stated program goal of Returning (to the Dance) and Advancing (past one game while there) is not going to happen this season unless, of course, we win the upcoming PAC tournament and what are our chances of doing that (zero to none, I would think, but anything is possible I suppose)...
I figured that if Herb could accomplish that this season that we may have finally reached a "turning point" with the program but obviously that will not happen, despite Herb essentially getting a lifetime contract guarantee from our new AD before the season started...
So here is the question for the day...
Do you think that Herb has done enough this season to make Ray Anderson think that his contract extension was warranted or do you think that Ray will begin thinking that he made a big mistake..??
Championships or Bust...Go Devils!!!
