Mornin Mates...

Today's Topic = Jet Lag

It's great to be home despite the heat...Europe doesn't have anything on America...London and Paris are just overcrowded and very congested cities just like NYC and LA...long lines and grid lock everywhere...Edinburgh in Scotland was different...still pretty crowded but much more manageable...

The high points of my trip were 1) visiting Normandy and the D-Day sites that included the American cemetery near Omaha Beach, 2) getting to St Andrews to see the grand old course where many a British Open has been played, and 3) seeing the opulence associated with the Palace Complex at Versailles in France that sits on 2,400 acres...

I've already eaten a month's quotient of Mexican food since getting back on July 4th and it tasted better than just about anything I'd eaten in England, Scotland or France...the French smoke a lot and eat a lot of bread and don't do much between 3-7 as that is when they go on break...they also drink nothing but espresso as far as I can tell...

It was fun watching some World Cup matches involving the Brits and French as their fans take that stuff very seriously and they are both still in the competition having reached the semi-finals...I still don't know why those soccer fans go nuts all match long but if it works for them, why not...

Changing gears, I see where the Devils have been adding a bunch of recruiting commitments, which is great, although I don't see a lot of high-profile type guys on the list yet...however, I trust Al Luginbill's ability to assess talent better than just about anyone else and believe that it has as much to do with the new early signing period as anything else...

I didn't know what to write about this morning but Greg Hansen did a piece in the paper down here about the Ups and Downs of the Cats and Devils since joining the PAC 40 years ago...

Here are some of the highlights...

In Basketball, the Cats have a 492-222 record with 15 conference championships and 32 tournament appearances while the Devils have gone 315-401 with 8 tournament appearances...

In Football, AU has won 253 games while the Devils have won 261 and have also won two conference championships and been to the Rose Bowl twice, while the Cats are still searching for that first Rose Bowl...

In Baseball, AU has won three NCAA championships while ASU has only won one (remember we are only talking about PAC years here)

Best moves by each school...AU hiring Lute Olson in basketball while Hansen thinks ASU's hiring of Ray Anderson is their best move to date, since the Devils ADs have been one clunker after another before RA arrived...

I agree that ASU has had very poor athletic directors while the jury is still out on RA...

Hansen thinks the best three coaches at ASU during this time have been Charli Turner Thorne, Jim Brock and Pat Murphy and the three highest profile ASU athletes being Phil Mickelson, James Harden and Pat Tillman (he also mentioned Barry Bonds)...

So, both programs, for the most part, have been very average at best during the PAC years...

I'm just glad that I was able to attend the school when the athletic department at ASU was thriving and one of the best in the nation back in the 60s and 70s...

I look forward to your feedback and I'm looking forward to the football season once again even though we aren't getting much preseason praise from the media...

We have a very tough schedule but I still think we will when 7-8-9 games barring a bunch of critical injuries...

Please also help me to catch up on these items...

Do we have any academic casualties in football thus far..??

What about any injury updates like what's happening with Ryan Kelley and Koron Crump, etc..??

Are we finished with our basketball recruiting for the year..??

How is TS doing with his recruits vs the MLB draft..??

Good to be back and looking forward to your feedback...;)

Also looking forward to more Mexican food and Sun Devil football...:)

I may be jet lagged but the dry desert heat, Mexican food and beer, and the Huddle fellowship are all helping me to get over it...

G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!
