Mornin Mates...
Today's Topic = The Good and Bad News
The good news for our Sun Devils this fine Sunday morning, in the desert, is that, thanks to the Beavers, we are now tied for first place in the PAC South with Utah...
The bad news is that we still have to travel to Corvallis in November to play the Beavers who are contending with the Ducks for the North PAC title...
The game did not start out well for the Beavers, as the Utes scored 14 points quickly and led 24-14 at the half, only to allow the Beavers to score 28 second half points to win 42-34...
It's pretty amazing that the Beavers, under Jonathan Smith, are North title contenders in his fourth year in Corvallis, since the Beavers are never highly ranked in recruiting...
They lead the PAC in scoring at 35.1 PPG and rushing with 245 YPG...
And, their remaining schedule looks pretty good as they travel to Cal and Colorado, before returning home to play Stanford and ASU, before ending their season at Oregon...
On another PAC note, the South was drubbed by the North this weekend as all South teams lost to North teams with ASU escaping due to a BYE...
Now the Devils next host Wazzu, that lost a close game to BYU yesterday, after losing their head coach and some assistants to the pandemic earlier in the week...
After Wazzu, the Devils host the Trojans that lost to Notre Dame yesterday before traveling to Wash and Oregon St...
I think the Devils will be favored against Wazzu, USC and AU but maybe not against either the Huskies or Beavers, although the Wash game should basically be a toss-up game...
In other Sun Devil news, the Devils baseball team split games against Long Beach St yesterday, losing the first 7-3 but winning the second 5-4....
The starting line-up for the Devils will look something like this based on what happened yesterday...
CF - Joe Lampe
2B - Sean McLain
3B - Ethan Long
1B - Conor Davis
DH - Blake Pivaroff
RF - Kai Murphy
SS - Hunter Haas
LF - Kade Higgins
C - Bronson Balholm
That looks to be a pretty good line-up to me and pitching still has a ways to go to be really effective against good competition but there are plenty of arms to work with by our staff...
If anyone was at the games yesterday, please give us your feedback...
The weather is starting to cool off some and is a welcome relief from the hot summer months, just in time for our day game against Wazzu next weekend...
So, who is going to win the South and why..??
Also, will our offense be able to score in the second half of its remaining games and will our defense be better than what they showed in the second half against the Utes..??
G'day Mates and Go Devils!!!
